Today, we got our results for our final grade English paper on which I worked my butt off on, and also which I let my best-friend copy off from. I received a E- and two detentions for plagiarism. My friend got a A minus. All she said was "oh well, at least you tried your best". FML

How is she supposed to know who copied who? YDI for letting your friend cheat off you.

#1 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:19pm by birds

Everyone who wants to copy off of me can go fuck themselves for this exact reason. I have a story that mirrors this one from the 6th grade. Live and learn OP.

#17 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:35pm by Reyo

Yeah, exactly. Though, was I the teacher, I would've failed both of the kids. Letting a friend copy a paper is just dumb. The teacher's going to notice when she reads two of the same essays...

#26 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:47pm by Byah

that would be more fair, but this way, the teacher discourages enabling (which is worse than copying IMO) WAY more than she would have if she graded fairly.

this wouldnt have happened if you had a penis instead of a baby oven

#78 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:47pm by Unregistered

Yeah, really. Just don't let people copy off you. Tell the teacher. Get your "friend" to admit it. If the teacher won't listen or your "friend" won't admit, then you're screwed and now you know that you shouldn't let people copy off you.

#85 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:05pm by A1L12E4X26

Also, how did you think you'd get away with this? Morality aside, it's not like a multiple choice test where you might have actually gotten the same answers. Did you really think the teacher wouldn't notice reading the same thing twice?

#92 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:32pm by roflcobra

either this is a fake or you are the stupidest fucking person on the planet. why would you let your friend copy your essay if you have the same teacher? thats asking to get caught. you're ignorant.

#106 - On 11/09/2009 at 6:54pm by stinkybutt

if you let someone copy off of you, you deserve a zero just as much as the kid who copied. why do you think they say, "don't GIVE or receive information"

#109 - On 11/09/2009 at 7:16pm by the_stereotype

Ok, so there are a thousand reasons why you are a moron, besides the fact that you let your "best friend" copy off you. FYI, "best friends" only exist in high school and are usually the worst person you will come in contact with in your life.

First of all, "our results for our final grade English paper on which" is shoddy grammar, the first sign that you've made mistakes in life. Then there's the lovely phrase "copy off from". Off from? Where did you learn English? And finally, but not lastly, there's my favorite: you got a E- and your friend got a A-. WTF!? Do you actually talk like this? Say it out loud: a E and a A. Hi, have you been introduced to the word "an", because I think it would be useful here.

Damn it. This is why the rest of the world hates the U.S. Learn something.

#183 - On 11/11/2009 at 2:18am by Mumblstiltskin

Mumblstiltskin, you're a fucking twit. This was in Australia, NOT the U.S.
Why don't you go and learn something?
Dumbass.

#187 - On 11/11/2009 at 12:25pm by Jon1337

WTF people automatically assume it's the U.S. when shit like this happens, I never did anything to you people stop insulting my country.

#194 - On 01/12/2010 at 6:37pm by tacosrawesome77

Who said there was an essay? Who said it wasn't Multiple choice? I've had english finals without essays, even in Honors English. You don't always have to write for English, let alone write in general for English. You sir are the one who is ignorant here.

#196 - On 03/09/2010 at 5:43pm by wasted0087

E-? And I thought an F was bad xD

#197 - On 03/10/2010 at 4:31pm by greendaygirl999

It doesn't help your friend to let them cheat off of you! YDI

#2 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:22pm by mitis

Yeah.. not a smart move, poindexter :/

#3 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:23pm by mercyFML

There are E-? Partially YDI, and FYL.

#4 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:23pm by mpangz

Hey, atleast it's better than an F right? ha

Does suck for you, but YDI for letting your friend copy

#20 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:40pm by pancakes_n_syrup

At my university, they would give a -100 on assignments for cheating. Maybe that's what the E- was (or maybe a 0).

#52 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:54pm by sarahbau

You're luck.. at my university, you have to go through an academic hearing, and if they prove you plagarised, you get suspended for at least one semester and get 0 in all your classes.

#83 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:56pm by jazzy1432

Agreed.

That's a pretty fail university if plagiarism isn't considered academic misconduct and grounds for dismissal.

And OP, YFDI.

#153 - On 11/10/2009 at 3:12am by Finnboghi

I didn't know the grade E- existed. Is that worse or better than an F?

#5 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:23pm by darkheadlights

Equivalent.

#29 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:56pm by Kylias

Different countries, different grading scales.

#87 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:15pm by dnlphm94

A = 100 - 90
B = 89 - 80
C = 79 - 70
D = 69 - 60
E = 59 - 50
F < 50

That's how they roll in QLD, where the OP is.

#128 - On 11/09/2009 at 8:57pm by postaltubealex

@128 that doesnt sound at all correct. unless qld has a different marking scale to the rest of the country.

#161 - On 11/10/2009 at 7:19am by organisedchaos

I'm more surprised your friend actually got an "A." perhaps she actually wrote the paper herself after she realized she was copying of a bog-stupid retard?

#6 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:25pm by catchyscreename

But then the OP wouldn't have gotten detentions for plagiarism.

#77 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:44pm by helennaa

If the way you wrote this FML is any indication, your grasp of the English language is tenuous at best. I'm sure the paper did not deserve that A- anyway. And YDI in the first place for letting your friend copy and not thinking you'd get caught. From which on which on that which on that... on.

#7 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:27pm by mrsnesbitt

this.

#144 - On 11/10/2009 at 12:17am by ovrwhlmdbystupid

YDI for letting your friend copy something you worked your butt of for.

#8 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:28pm by zoinky

so you assumed that when the teacher reads two identical essays, he or she will assume it´s pure coincidence and give you both an A? Complete YDI

#9 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:28pm by tradada

Too many negative votes, comment buried. Show the comment.

An E- is worse than an F. America is the only country stupid enough to skip the letter E and go straight to F. Normal countries don't do that.
And FML, but YDI a little too. At least you learned your lesson (hopefully).

#10 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:28pm by snegfml

In America, the letter grades are in descending order. By your logic, an E- should be better than an F, since you say we 'skip' it.

#13 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:32pm by ItecKid

Last I checked, E came before F. No skipping. Also, F stands for FAIL!!!

#19 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:38pm by rothenb

My high school used E's for students who technically failed but had a good excuse, like if they got sick and missed half the semester.

#41 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:28pm by blalien

We don't skip. In my public schools, the grading scale (from best to worst) was A, B, C, D, E. There were no pluses or minuses. In college, we have A, B, C, D, F. No Es, but we have pluses and minuses. I've never heard of an E-. Ever. And as already pointed out, the reason for skipping E is that F stands for FAIL.

#43 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:32pm by catastrophicsock

I think it's because the letter E on a grade stands for "Excused" or something. America isn't stupid for skipping the letter, it would be more stupid to use it for 2 different things.

Also, way to insult an entire country of people you've never met based on one thing they do that happens to differ from the way your country does things. =D

#50 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:48pm by Trebie

America's concentration on letter grades is what is stupid (and the use of F instead of E). Worry about the mark you got not the letter grade.

#73 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:39pm by bucknekd

Actually, we in America are smart enough to know that 'E' is between 'D' and 'F.'

However, there is a certain logic to skipping over 'E' and using 'F' to indicate a failing grade. When you realize you are going to have to tell your parents about this grade, the word that comes to mind doesn't begin with an 'E.'

(There are too many letters to skip to get to the other good candidate, 'S'.)

#74 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:39pm by perdix

at the high school i attended (in Maryland) we used 'E's rather than 'F's... so it isn't as if using the letter 'F' as a failing grade is uniform over the nation.

And yes, it was a public school.

#75 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:43pm by Seti

In Ontario we use R, for remedial, instead of F from JK - 6 and then percents afterwards in combination with grade levels. To claim that a country is idiotic for using a different grading system than your own is not only insulting to us, but you just demonstrated how much of an ignorant fool you happen to be. Please, if you are going to argue over something so pointless, read out loud your comment before you post or you just look like a total jackass. As a side note the percents work like this for us:

A: 80-100 Level 4: Above government standards
B: 70-79 Level 3: At government standards
C: 60-69 Level 2: Below but approaching government standards
D: 50-59 Level 1: Well below government standards.
Anything below 50 and you failed.

As a final thought, you people do realize that in most countries, education is under state/province/what ever jurisdiction which includes the grading system they use. That would account why some places you just need a 85 instead of a 95 to be considered doing very well in a course. You all don't learn the same thing at the same time at the same degree of difficulty.

And that ends my two cents.

#94 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:38pm by Dancinganimal256

FACT: My school uses E's instead of F's
FACT: I live and go to school in America
FACT: Yea. Take that...?

...also, I live in Maryland, and as someone pointed out earlier, Maryland uses E's.

#95 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:43pm by Plumppotato

In Australia, an E is the lowest grade (or rather, an E-). America is the only place that goes ABCDF... we know the alphabet you see so we use ABCDE.

#116 - On 11/09/2009 at 8:02pm by LilaBear

well, you see, as previously stated (about 6 other times) "F" is interchangeable with the world "fail" or "failing". I, personally, have never heard of the word "ealing". So, although we skip a letter in some states, it still has a good reasoning behind it.

how's it feel to be schooled by a 9th grader?

#125 - On 11/09/2009 at 8:25pm by brandon425

At my college, they give us our percentage grade and then we have to figure out our own letter grade. Also, some of the grading scales are different depending on the difficulty of the class. Most are 90-100 is an A, and so on, but for really difficult classes like organic chemistry and such the scale is easier, such as an 83 is still an A. Also, the fact that you seem to think that F comes before E and that someone who let their friend copy an ESSAY forces me to come to the conclusion that you are an idiot.

#131 - On 11/09/2009 at 9:03pm by rx0829

"well, you see, as previously stated (about 6 other times) "F" is interchangeable with the world "fail" or "failing". I, personally, have never heard of the word "ealing". So, although we skip a letter in some states, it still has a good reasoning behind it. "

thats illogical unless A B C and D actually mean something too. otherwise why even have them? why not just give numbers and than anything else is an F...idiot.

________________

anyway, i think that the dumbass youre all responding to was trying to say was that we dont use F, so E is the worst it gets. but that also depends on where you go and as i said, the person is a dumbass. this is not a reflection of my entire country.

#162 - On 11/10/2009 at 7:27am by organisedchaos

Ever heard of Ealing Broadway in London?

If I ever become a teacher, I'll always make sure I wipe my with a plagerized paper before giving it back.

#12 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:32pm by shaister

your what?

#96 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:46pm by Plumppotato

YDI. Don't let others cheat from you. At my school it's made very clear that if you let someone copy from you, you're at fault just the same. I say FYL a little bit because she got an A- and you got an E- and got the blame, but if you didn't do it in the first place this never would've happened.

#14 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:32pm by bananamanama

In Australia...

A = 85 and above
B = 70-85
C = 50-70
D = 25-50
E = 0-25

Which means she probably got a 0.

#15 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:33pm by Saccharide

Damn, you only need an 85 for an A? In most classes in America, the A is like 92 or 93+...

#18 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:37pm by ItecKid

Those Australians and their lackadaisical standards. Last year, you needed a 94 to get an A in my county, but this year they reduced it to 93.

#30 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:00pm by lifeinhd

85 is not even an A- at my uni, it's a B :(
OP: partly FYL but mostly YDI.

#33 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:11pm by lebrockshard

Keep in mind that just because the points distribute differently doesn't mean that it is easier or harder to get a given grade -- it might be harder or easier to get those points.

#38 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:22pm by goldgrae

Grading at my high school was:

97+: A+
93-96: A
90-92: A-
86-89: B+
83-85: B
80-82: B-
76-69: C+
73-75: C
70-72: C-
66-69: D+
63-65: D
60-62: D-
59-: F

It's nice to know that F students at my high school would've been C students in Australia.

#46 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:36pm by RyeBreadBoy

Not really the case 38. 100 question exam you could miss 15 and still get an A in Australia, but in America you can only get 8 wrong to still get that A. at least we're not letting as many idiots pass.

A - 92 - 100
B - 83 - 91
C - 74 - 82
D - 65 - 73
F - 0 - 64

As for the OP, YDI for letting your friend copy off you. No sense complaining, you brought it on yourself.

#47 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:37pm by TheTruth1428

u only need an 85 for an A? a 70 for a B?
i get grounded when i get an 85. 94 and up is a lot of america

#66 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:25pm by ryanryanryan12

no always 66 at my school it's;

A 90 -100
B 80 - 89
C 70 - 79
D 60 -69
F 59 - below

but the teacher really should have failed them both and at my school they fail all people involved and they get ISD or ASD (In school Detention, After School Detention)

#79 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:51pm by Jujube93

Time to move to Australia!

#81 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:53pm by FairLouisa

Mine's
A= 80-100
B= 70-79
C= 60-69
D= 50-59
F= 0-49

#84 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:03pm by jazzy1432

Wow, at my school you need a 95+ to get an A.

#86 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:10pm by fringle

All schools are different, and when you get to college/university most of the time professors decide their own cutoffs. I have one professor who says a 92+ is an A and a 90/91 is an A-, and another professor who declares anything above 95 is an A and a 91-94 is an A-.

While an 85 equaling an A may seem really lacking in standards to you, perhaps the teachers have much harder grading standards :)

#89 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:24pm by fdgaf_SCL

the grading changes from state to state, from school to school. Those are only basic guidelines.

#117 - On 11/09/2009 at 8:03pm by LilaBear

True, an 85+ may be an A here in Australia but it is difficult to get those grades sometimes. The teachers may decide what an A is, also. It depends on what marks other students get. I could get 85% but only have a B because heaps of students received a higher mark.

#160 - On 11/10/2009 at 7:11am by PandaPandaPandaX

lol @ this entire thread. so so sad.

#164 - On 11/10/2009 at 7:46am by organisedchaos

and at my school it was different for each test.

I can assure you that pure numbers are not enough to easily compare results. It's easy too use more difficult questions and it's possible that having A and 95 from test in US you will only have 84 and B in Australia.
Or the other way around.
Your assumptions are hasty and not justified.

#165 - On 11/10/2009 at 9:02am by Gorzki

@165 this is why usually when moving to another country you take tests to see what level youre at, because if you came to australia with US grades people would make the mistake of thinking the average american is actually intelligent.

#181 - On 11/11/2009 at 12:56am by organisedchaos

Talking about grading systems, The Netherlands uses a much easier system:
100 = 10
99-90 = 9
89-80 = 8
79-70 = 7
69-60 = 6
59-50 = 5
49-40 = 4
39-30 = 3
29-20 = 2
19-10 = 1

Between the marks we also use decimals.

#190 - On 11/14/2009 at 12:45pm by arienh4

Your "best-friend" turned you in for plagiarism.

And, by the way, you cheated, too, by letting her copy. You both deserve E-'s.

Plus, you deserve spankings! Since you have probably abolished the barbaric practice of corporal punishment in schools in Australia, you'll have to come to my house in Texas for me to give it to you and your friend.

#16 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:35pm by perdix

You thought your teacher would read two of the same essays and not notice? YDI.

#21 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:41pm by potatopeeler

Your life sucks, but YDI for letting your friend copy off you. It's one thing just to give them a few tips, but they have to come up with their own material.

#22 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:41pm by israelnotjacob

ydi for sure... you never let a friend copy a paper....

#23 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:42pm by jenniferyoung120

without more information, I'm calling this false. either the friend told your teacher that you stole her paper (not copied, as if she let you copy, it would still be on her head) or you're lying. no teacher on Earth would see two identical papers and give one person an A- and fail the other.

#24 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:45pm by hitoshura

YDI for letting your mate copy yeah, but you should definitely bring her down with. Talk to the teacher, you probs won't get off your punishment but you'll get some closure seeing that bitch rot in detention with you.

#25 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:46pm by readsthepaper

I can't understand why you would let your so-called best friend copy your work. YDI. I hope you learned a lesson.

#27 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:48pm by deepbluesea

I had this happen to my in high school too. My friend needed help writing her paper so I told her what mine was about. She got an A, I got a B.

#28 - On 11/09/2009 at 2:52pm by Darling_Cherry

Well apparently she wrote about your topic much better than you did. No need to start pointing fingers because you can't write worth a shit. Well I guess worth a B.

#36 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:15pm by ncoppola

YDI!! god i swear, the some people dont use the brain they were born with.

#31 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:01pm by kibbleznbitz0

no wonder, your grammar skills deserve an E- as well

#32 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:04pm by loveeisnott

and that's why I let my friends suffer with their failing grades. :)

#34 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:14pm by xSceneSceneBabyx

YDI because you idiotically let her use you like trash and then throw you away.

#35 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:15pm by Moemoemoe

YDI for letting your friend copy dumbass

#39 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:24pm by Sickillsells

Letting someone else copy is technically still academically dishonest. If the imbalance of justice upsets you, turn your friend in. But you deserve the punishment.

#40 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:27pm by letitbe56

Why would you let your friend copy? You're stupid. And really? A E? A A? Try some proper grammar.

#44 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:35pm by LikeOhMahGoose

it sucks a lot that you got punished even though you were the one that wrote the A- essay, but you still deserved it because letting someone copy your paper is still cheating. also, did you REALLY think the teacher wouldn't notice?

#45 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:36pm by katinthehat

what the hell's an E- in america the lowest grade possible is an F

#48 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:43pm by benshady

australia does it right my country just skips over E like its not even there lol

#49 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:45pm by kangaroo62

I think the E was for *E*xtra *F*oolish? ...thus the minus. Guess we know who's paper she read first! much deserved for letting your "friend" copy. A REAL friend wouldn't ask to copy in the first place. Chalk it up as a lesson learned in both school and life (friends).

uh yeaahhh ydi douchebag

#53 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:56pm by KiddNYC10

At my university, allowing someone to copy (plagiarize) your work is just as bad as plagiarizing someone else's work.

So YDI for letting that bitch copy off you. Hope you learned your lesson!

#54 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:59pm by kazkazkazkaz

i'd tell her to fuck off

#56 - On 11/09/2009 at 3:59pm by thekingjoe90

well you shouldn't have let ur friend copy off of you!!!!! and how do you get an E- E isn't even a grade

#57 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:02pm by zaq857

Never ever let someone copy off you, or bounce ideas off you, no matter how "good" of a friend they are! They don't deserve the credit when you were the one who killed off all the brain cells and such. I hope you learned your lesson this time!

By the way, you should confront the teacher about it. Even if he/she believes that you were the one who copied your friend's work, that does not mean your friend should get away with it. When plagiarism occurs, BOTH students get an automatic fail on their papers. What you're teacher did is biased and it violates school policies.

#58 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:05pm by 5upernova

My school is pretty simple:
90-100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
60-69 D
50-59 E
49- F
I don't where any of YOU are from :]

You're an idiot and so is your friend

#60 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:08pm by ElMundio87

You're an idiot for letting your friend copy - you totally deserve all the trouble you're in. If a friend asks to copy, tell them to get off their lazy ass and do it themselves; if the friend gets angry with you, you're better off ditching someone who can't comprehend the idea that cheating is wrong.

#61 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:13pm by K4ofDoom

E-?? In the states ours goes A, B, C, D, and F. I never knew you could get an E in other countries. Strange.

#62 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:16pm by guy_on_the_couch

you're an idiot

#63 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:19pm by Gitsandshiggles

it doesn't matter who copied off of who, you should both fail because of cheating
She's a bitch and you're an idiot for risking your own grades

#65 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:24pm by whooshk

you should tell the teacher she copyed off you

#67 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:26pm by jack185868

Why would you let your friend copy a term paper? I could understand a fill-in-the-blank or multiple choice, but how's the teacher not going to notice identical ESSAYS?

I guess that's what happens when you let convicts run their own country.

#68 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:27pm by phatdaddy

E-?? I thought it went A A- B B B- C C C- D D D- U. idk it might just be my school

#69 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:32pm by stupiddumbblonde

okay, for all the idiots saying australias standard of education is worse than americas, shut up. There was a survey done a few years ago that found 60% of surveyed americans got austria and australia confused, and a further 75% thought that kangaroos came from austria. So yaaayy for general knowledge.

A+ - 90+
A - 80-89
B+ - 75-79
B - 70-74
C - 60-69
D - 50-59
not satisfactory - below 50

This is the marking system in my state in australia for all the people who were confused.

#70 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:33pm by aussieoioioi

LOL Who the hell did they survey, preschoolers???

#93 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:36pm by fdgaf_SCL

That survey doesn't prove Americans' ignorance. Only our inattention to detail. Was this a timed test?

#192 - On 11/19/2009 at 4:14pm by phatdaddy

I go to a private school in America, but we use an E instead of an F (notice the correct article, OP?).

About the actual FML. You will get caught. There was a girl who sued my school for getting "asked to leave" because she was caught plagiarizing on a test. She was stupid enough to do it in the library, and her teacher walked in and saw her. Poorly played. The honour code is very strict, so she got what she deserved. No matter what excuse she used (that she was being bullied--a lie, might I add), she still plagiarized.

Anyway, in your case...what on EARTH were you thinking?! Here are the issues with plagiarism:

a) You will get caught.
b) You risk a lower grade. You want to do well, correct? Don't give someone the chance to do a better job than you can. It's self-sabotage, really.
c) It's dishonest. I'm sure a lot of other people worked really hard and got A's, too. But of course, they did it honestly.
d) The other person learns nothing from it. If you hold his or her hand and basically write the essay for him or her, the copier will never develop the skills needed to succeed because he or she can't write for shit.

#71 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:35pm by Melpomene

I do believe that that's what you get for letting someone copy off of you.

#72 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:38pm by hereforthelaughs

any one tries to copy my wotk can go fuck off friend or not my friend no one copies me bitch

#80 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:52pm by dustbunny10

um how on earth do you copy a final PAPER? YDI.

#82 - On 11/09/2009 at 4:54pm by summer99

There is no planet on which this is not a big, fat YDI. Copying math problems - sure. Copying an English assignment? How the hell did you think no one was going to notice??

#88 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:17pm by anjyu22

kk for 1) You completely and utterly deserve it for letting that friend copy off you (can anyone say idiot?) 2) How is the teache supposed to know who copied who? (although she/he should have spoken to you both to sort it out, not just assume you copied.) 3) Talk to her/him about it, you dont want to get stuck with plagerism and detentions lying on your school record. and 4) what a frigging stupid thing to do?!?!?! its called telling them no and if they persist... give them a false crap one! TDI for copying anyways

#90 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:25pm by baby_gurl2405

how do u get an e-?

#91 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:32pm by whysoserious22

I call bullshit. There isn't such grade of an E-. (is there?)

#97 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:50pm by powermad80

What the fuck is up with all these extremely ignorant Americans?

If all these idiots would just look at the previous, yes there IS such thing as an E- grade.
Jesus Christ, people, shut the fuck up already and get over it D:

But, yeah, OP, YDI for having a "friend" copy a /final/ paper.
Not to mention she sounds like a bitch for saying that after you let her do so.

#101 - On 11/09/2009 at 6:06pm by failuristic

Well I have never gotten an E grade because I am not retarded. But that probably makes me an ignorant American, huh? The reason we Americans are so "ignorant" is because we don't care about the letters you are graded in elsewhere. I'm sure you know just as little when it comes to trivial facts about America. Also we could kick your country's ass.

#105 - On 11/09/2009 at 6:46pm by Crapsickle

To Crapsickle - bet you anything I know more trivial things about America than you know about Australia. For instance... I know that America's grading system goes ABCDF while you wouldn't have known ours goes ABCDE! I could also tell you the last 4 American presidents, I bet you couldn't tell me the last 4 Australian Prime Ministers. I could also name over 40 (and close to all 50) American states, I bet you couldn't name all 7 Australian states & Territories. Don't go all "how are we suppose to know trivial things about other countries".

#118 - On 11/09/2009 at 8:05pm by LilaBear

Yea but Lilabear, you know that stuff for a reason. America is far more culturally significant in the world scene than Australia. I'm sorry if that's hard for you to hear but it's true. Your response is like you living in the age of the Roman Empire and saying "I know things about Rome, why don't you know about my vastly less important country?" Besides I'm sure you've picked up plenty from movies, which are mostly made in the US, and as far as comparing our presidents to your prime ministers, the US president pretty much has the most political, economic, and military power of any person in the world, whereas Australia's prime minister.... not so much. Sorry but it's true.

#124 - On 11/09/2009 at 8:24pm by captainamerica50

Congratulations on knowing all that information about the United States. You must be a genius or something! I hope you can detect my sarcasm. It's hard not to know a lot of stuff about a huge country that's in the news all the time.

#126 - On 11/09/2009 at 8:27pm by fuckinga

you are right cpt. america and I agree that it's normal I know much more about US then about Australia, and you know as much about Poland (where I live) as I know about..... Laos? Bangladesh?

That's fair.

But what often happens here, is that some american idiot says something stupid like "there's no E" in this case.
It's understandable that americans believe US is most important country, but assuming that in Australia they have the same grade scale as in states is highly offensive and makes US citizens seem like a bunch of idiots.

FML's are from all over the world, if something is impossible in your school it still may be possible in another culture.

And if I would like to send FML regarding school grades (I'm too old for that anyway) I will have problem, becasue translation of grades isn't always easy and if I write my grade as I got it, it won't tell you much.
Also, there's not enough place to explain one's school grade system in an FML.

#168 - On 11/10/2009 at 9:17am by Gorzki

How is an American assuming that the grading system is the same all over the world offensive? If that offends you, you seriously need to man up. (note: I'm not saying it's not STUPID to assume that. But it's definitely not offensive.)

#184 - On 11/11/2009 at 2:45am by star_ver

(Stupid time limit)

Also, "It makes American citizens seem like a bunch of idiots." Actually, no. It makes that one idiot seem like an idiot. You know... Unless you're generalizing an entire country based on the comments of one idiot. But you wouldn't do that, you're FAR too intelligent for that. Right? Right???

#185 - On 11/11/2009 at 2:48am by star_ver

she is not your friend :/

#98 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:54pm by drmike

#99 - On 11/09/2009 at 5:57pm by Carterv

clearly you have only lived in America.

Don't tell someone they're wrong just because you're not familiar with it.

#121 - On 11/09/2009 at 8:10pm by LilaBear

Don't cheat! And don't end sentences with a preposition!

#102 - On 11/09/2009 at 6:17pm by ragsy

It's obvious what happened:

1. Teacher knows your best friend is a moron and you are the smarter of the two.

2. Your paper was poorly written, with every sentence containing at least five prepositions, and most sentences ending with prepositions.

3. Teacher assumed the paper was written by your dumber best-friend... and you must have copied.

Learn something from this: don't let anyone copy your work, and stop using so many goddamn prepositions. If you have to overuse words, use goddamn adjectives instead.

#103 - On 11/09/2009 at 6:39pm by thugbert

haha! Yeah! on, off, from . . . damn. confusing.

#112 - On 11/09/2009 at 7:22pm by lovemyE8

Why would you work your butt off, and then let your friend use the same essay for no work?...your a fucking idiot

#104 - On 11/09/2009 at 6:46pm by NDnation44

damn everyone on here seems to be all up on their high horses " dont ever copy ydi" I can understand letting a friend see your paper, so they can get a few ideas off it and whatever, i always let a friend copy, ill never know when ill need the favor returned. That being said if you really let them borrow it knowing they were going to copy it word for word, how did you get into college?

#107 - On 11/09/2009 at 6:56pm by WIDRR

why the hell would you let someone copy your paper? Idiot.

#110 - On 11/09/2009 at 7:17pm by lalaroo

Didn't anyone notice the horrible grammar here? Why would anyone WANT to copy an English paper of hers/his? This is the LAST person I would think might write a good essay. Anyway, YDI, because its ridiculous to cheat in school. How stupid to you have to be to miss the point of education????

#120 - On 11/09/2009 at 8:08pm by IceCream53423

Some of you don't have to use the terms "ignorant Americans" it's really offensive, and not all of us American's are as dumb as the one's that have posted on here. Your country has ignorant people as well, their ignorance has nothing to do with them being Americans. Seriously, that was extremely rude.

#122 - On 11/09/2009 at 8:10pm by loveadicts

From one American to another, allow me to say that your argument would be much more convincing if you knew the difference between plural s & possessive 's.

#142 - On 11/09/2009 at 11:36pm by natw

Also, can you say run on sentence?

#169 - On 11/10/2009 at 12:01pm by theanonimouse

an E-? do those exist?

#123 - On 11/09/2009 at 8:21pm by Snclifford

The reason we don't use E in America is because its easy to take an F and add a line to turn it into an E, and therefore a better grade. Its to prevent cheating. Which, btw OP, you totally deserved.

#127 - On 11/09/2009 at 8:38pm by valuemeal2

What bullshit are you trying to feed us??? Your grammar in your post is pathetic; there is no way you wrote an English paper that got an A because some one else submitted it!! You copied her paper without her knowing and the teacher saw that there was no way you wrote it so you got the grade you deserved!
"worked my butt off on" "friend copy off from" hahahahahahah nice try!!

#129 - On 11/09/2009 at 9:01pm by yourkiddingright

Australians aren't stupid. In fact, when ranked internationally based on the Education index, we're tied 1st. The US is 19th.

#130 - On 11/09/2009 at 9:02pm by postaltubealex

People at my school cheat all the time but were not stupid enough to get caught. One time I copied my friends science project and just reworded the stuff. You gotta be ahead of the game bro.

#132 - On 11/09/2009 at 9:16pm by ElNegroHombre

You deserved it the moment you said you let them copy oof your work. Sorry, but you really shouldn't be that stupid when you're old enough to use the internet.

#133 - On 11/09/2009 at 9:16pm by Agnol117

It's not E- that's unfair.
Friends reaction is most FHR, I get A and made you get an E? ups, I don't care.

OP deserved E-, but deserved at least some empathy from her friend.

SDI for choosing friends so badly ;P

#167 - On 11/10/2009 at 9:08am by Gorzki

At my school:

A: 90-100
B: 80-90
C: 70-80
D: 0-70

D is a failing grade. All others pass.

#134 - On 11/09/2009 at 9:17pm by xenomorph

Oh and we had the same teacher and were in the same hour.

#135 - On 11/09/2009 at 9:19pm by ElNegroHombre

Denmark grading system
−3 = F
00 = Fx
02 = E
4 = D
7 = C
10 = B
12 = A

#136 - On 11/09/2009 at 9:29pm by FATTY_MCDOOGLE

If this person is from Denmark, then they might have trouble with English grammar. It's only natural to struggle with a second or third language.
Did you people ever learn about sympathy or empathy? Man. You're heartless.

#137 - On 11/09/2009 at 9:52pm by degco44

Empathy? Dude . . . they posted on FML.

And those grammar mistakes are a lot more common for native speakers, at least in my experience.

#139 - On 11/09/2009 at 10:18pm by dearambivalence

First reaction: E minus. Trippy
Second reaction: That sucks, but a small YDI because you let her cheat off you anyway.
Third reaction: I'm writing three English papers that are worth half my grade right now, though, so I hear ya.

#138 - On 11/09/2009 at 10:17pm by dol567

OP, it's your own damn fault. You should know better than letting someone copy your work. Hopefully, this painful experience will teach you a valuable lesson for the rest of your life. YDI

#140 - On 11/09/2009 at 11:38pm by lostfaithinpppl

hmm, not only did you let somebody else copy off of your essay, but it appears as if you can't even spell yourself. YTFDI (You Totally Fucking Deserve It)

#141 - On 11/09/2009 at 11:32pm by xXlolololXx

Obviously the teacher graded your friend's paper first and thought yours was the copy. Nope, this isn't FYL, this is a 100% YDI. Next time, don't let her copy. Teachers aren't stupid!

#143 - On 11/09/2009 at 11:41pm by Shmoopie4

well everyone can quit commenting on this because IT DIDNT HAPPEN. I know damn well that a teacher doesnt give onestudent a failing grade and the other an A!

#145 - On 11/10/2009 at 12:29am by dixiehighway

For everyone that has:
A = 90-100, B = 80-89, C = 70-79
D = 60-69, F = 50-59

At my school anything lower than a 70 is failing. Basically grading is A = 90-100, B = 80-88, C = 70-79, F = <69

#146 - On 11/10/2009 at 12:32am by iplayrugby18

I'd flip out, but really? YDI

#147 - On 11/10/2009 at 12:36am by Guitarist45

and WTF is an E-? Was it really THAT bad that your teacher had to invent a whole new grade because she couldn't describe how awful it was with the current grading system? damn

#148 - On 11/10/2009 at 12:39am by Guitarist45

I'm pretty sure this entire 'argument' is barbaric.
I live, and go to school in Queensland, Australia.
and we go ABCDE.
but E- is only used for plagiarism.
Americans have a different way of attacking the education systems, get over it.
plagiarism is illegal and our school kicks out seniors for it,
so suck it up, YDI.

#154 - On 11/10/2009 at 3:53am by caamm

Stop with the "my country knows the alphabet better than your country." Stop assuming you are better than us "dumb" Americans. At least we don't have Op as one of our future workers. I don't care what the grade percentage is in other countries, we can logically assume since she is Australian then they use a different scale. I don't care. It only furthers my fears that education all over the world fails people. We didn't invent the system, for all I care we could have Z as failing grade, or pictures of unicorns. It doesn't matter.

Op, you are stupid.

#155 - On 11/10/2009 at 4:36am by Flutist

Well, you did write "my friend got a A..." not "an A" :) :)

#156 - On 11/10/2009 at 4:43am by Cassadaga17

YDI for giving away your work! It's still cheating. Sucks that they got an A, but that doesn't mean you deserved one. Have a backbone and tell them to do their own work. You're lucky you didn't get kicked out, man, that stuff can destroy your life if it happens after you graduate!

#157 - On 11/10/2009 at 5:50am by marshmallowmouse

It's hard to find a place to begin.
Your English is poor.
Your grammar is worse.
Your knowledge (or lack thereof) of your own countries grading scales is embarrassing.
All Australian states use the same grading system by legislation.
Clearly you are a secondary school student, so the following applies:
* Bands 1 through 6 *
- 1. Failure
- 2. Unsatisfactory
- 3. Below Average
- 4. Average
- 5. Good
- 6. Excellent
These are a reflection of the students overall mark in a specific subject/topic.

* A through E *
- A. Top 7% of the grade/course/subject/school/state
- B. Top 17-8% of the grade/course/subject/school/state
- C. Top 27 - 18% of the grade/course/subject/school/state
- D. Top 37 - 28% of the grade/course/subject/school/state
- E. In the lower 62% of the grade/course/subject/school/state
These are not a reflection of the students actual mark, rather the student position within a predetermined collection of students.

For example;
There are 43 students in a class.
8 students get a mark of 12/15
13 students get a mark of 10/15
19 students get a mark of 9.5/15
2 students get a mark of 8/15
1 student gets a mark of 5/15

The gradings would be as follows;

Bands -
0 students are given Band 6
8 students are given Band 5
0 Students are given Band 4
31 Students are given Band 3
2 Students are given Band 2
1 Student is given Band 1

Letters -
8 students are given an A
0 students are given a B
13 students are given a C
0 students are given a D
22 students are given an E

This is why the dual grading system is used in Australia, it gives the students, parents and teachers a measure of each individuals marks as well as their standing within a specified group such as the grade/course/subject/school/state.

#158 - On 11/10/2009 at 6:27am by Cozzies

You probably shouldn't insult someone else's English/grammar and then use such poor English yourself.

(Hint: I suggest you learn the difference between the plural and possessive forms. Also, look up the term "comma splice.")

#170 - On 11/10/2009 at 12:06pm by theanonimouse

*country's
*student's/students' (I can't tell how many people you're talking about)
*decide whether to give 'student' a capital, or not
*then stick with your decision throughout
*individual's
*and also, of course, your "knowledge (or lack thereof)" surrounding the comma.

Seriously. This coming from a "secondary school student", which apparently you feel like you are above. Evidently, not so much.

#171 - On 11/10/2009 at 12:44pm by repyourcliche

cozzies,
isnt that only with the NAPLAN, formerly known as the AIM test? :S
Im pretty sure that different states have different ways of marking the end of school score... Like vic has the VCE and nsw has the HSC along with other states... And i thought they were doing something to fix up the inbalance of marking systems around the country :S

Orrrr i could be totally wrong :P
My school changed from A+'s to outstandings and B's to excellents, etc in 2007

#159 - On 11/10/2009 at 6:44am by aussieoioioi

Cozzies,
Bands only apply to tests not made by your teachers or your school. E.g SC, NAPLAN, Basic Skills Test, etc.

My school doesn't use the letter grading system, we just stick to percentages.

#172 - On 11/10/2009 at 2:39pm by Subjectzero

1. Guessing since it's AUSTRALIA, IDIOTS, that their grading system is a bit different.

2. You deserve it, especially on a paper. It's impossible to let people copy off you for papers. Multiple choice worksheets? Fine. That's what my friend and I did all the time. She actually just passed the sheet around the class in homeroom because so many people asked. But a paper? It'd be so incredibly hard to copy that and NOT get caught. Granted, you both should've failed. One for letting someone copy, the other for copying. Teacher's dumb in that regard.
