How hard is it to bake a cake? I've made two in my life time and they both turned out great, just follow the damn directions. It's when people start getting "creative" or start making substitutions that the cake starts tasting like shit.
Yes, I know you can make cakes from scratch, but unless you're positive the cake will taste great, don't take it to a party.

My dad likes to make 'smart' substitutions and additions to his food. I've learned not to eat anything he makes anymore.

People like say "Honesty is the best policy". The problem with this statement is that most people aren't prepared for real honesty. I'm talking about stark, brutal honesty, something like this FML.
Why should he be shamed for being honest? Just because the comment reflects not only on the cake but the person who made it? If I were him, I'd be honest too. Maybe I wouldn't say it was shit, but I would say it was at least awful. Most people don't take to well to criticism. Many prefer to be lied to than face the truth. I believe that being overly sensitive is more of a character flaw than being brutally honest.
