What's with all the dead dog FMLs lately?

YDI for using incorrect grammar.
At first I thought you were talking to me.
Turns out you're just a douche for replying so your comment would be at the top.
rip for doggy. u stupid for not bringing it to a vet afterwards
Thats a shame, but you should be proud of yourself for doing something like that in the first place. It shows u care for it's life, even in it's last hours.
I agree. That dog was probably on it's last leg for it's last few months but was just waiting for someone to take the time to care about it before drifting away peacefully. I think it's sweet..I'm sorry you lost your dog so soon, but at least you made it easier for him to move on
I agree with #2, I am normally kind of a dick with my comments, but its hard to be when it comes to dogs.
OP at least you gave the dog a home so it died happy instead of lonely in a cage
yeah :'( sad. im going to shower now. need break...too sad to read more
These things happen and this sucks, but as the famous Stephen Lynch song goes, "Dead puppies aren't much fun."
And yes, I understand an 11-year-old dog is no longer a puppy.
I love Stephen Lynch! OP, I'm sorry that happened, but I also agree that the dog was probably happy to have you.
Probably small consolation, but the poor dog probably died very happy to think that he had found a new owner who loved him. Upsetting for you, but the best ending he could have wished for. When you are ready, have another go.
Definitely not an FML. You should feel your life is blessed.
Kudos to you for giving the dog a happy ending. A k9 hospice.
It's not like you got deeply attached to it.
@ # 9-I have to say:
1) You are a moron for calling the dog a "used up second-hand dog."
2) You are an idiot for thinking you can buy/adopt an animal any other way than "as is."
3) You are an asshole for thinking you know where she gets her underwear, condoms, or dogs.
4) You are a stupid shit for not being able to understand what you read. It does not say/ imply that she "bought" the dog "as is" on Craigslist.
The OP tried to do something nice for a dog in need, which was a nice thing to do. Obviously, you don't understand this kind of thing.
Shut up, please.
Edit- I was replying to wileypube's comment, and now it's not here. Hahah. What's funny is I was going to say the nicest thing he could do for anyone would be to just disappear!
Then, POOF! he's gone!
I have magical powers. Don't fuck with me.

My comment is still there. FYL for not understanding humor and irony.
WAIT! So I DONT have magical powers?? Aww fuck!!
well, at least you have something to throw in the fireplace. Wood is overrated

YDI for buying used up, second-hand dogs. This is something you should expect when buying an animal "as is." FYL for being the type of person to purchase underwear at a garage sale, condoms at a thrift store, and canines on craigslist.
I gave your comment a thumbs down, so why am I laughing so hard? Am I going to go to Hell?
At least he died at a home, and loved instead of someplace else and lonely.
Wileypube, rofl because I did in fact get my precious doggie on craigslist.
You are starting to make me lose my will to live, too.
I'm leaving before I end up like that poor dog.
Where's Advice Dog? I miss him! :(
Well, perhaps everyone is correct and you gave that poor dog on it's last leg a nice new home so it could die in comfort and happiness knowing someone cared for it.
Or perhaps it just gave up wanting to live after being tossed out like refuse after 11 fucking years of loving ownership. I hate assholes who get pets and then ditch the responsibility when it suits them.
maybe i am just being pessimistic.
good on you for adopting the old fellow though... at least you cared.

u shouldve adopt bit young dog, what's the age avarage age of dog?
After looking at your terribly grammatically incorrect sentence, I figured out you were asking the average age of a dog. Every breed of dog lives different spans..11 is old, but it could've lived to be 18. The reason dogs everywhere are getting put to sleep is because people keep adopting "younger dogs" thinking the old ones are washed up. I adopted my 2nd dog when she was 6 and I have to say, at 8 she is still keeping up with the young ones and has just as much energy. There's no difference.
i must admit, i've always adopted younger dogs. not puppies, though. i adopted the dog i have now when he was about a year old. but i fell in love with him the moment i walked into the SPCA. if he had been older, i would've still adopted him. maybe that's the case with the OP. maybe she really loved that dog from the moment she saw him, which is why she decided to adopt him regardless of his age. f her life because the dog died, which is always painful. but she should be proud of herself for giving that dog a chance to have a home. not many people want older dogs these days, but they need love and care just the same as younger dogs.
Aww I'm so sorry sweetheart :( FYL!
at least he finally had a home in the last few moments of his life... poor thing :(
OP, you are a good person. It takes a very special kind of person to adopt an older dog, and at least he had a home for his last hours. Please don't let this discourage you from adopting another older dog. If there were a god, I would say "Bless you". Most of the shit I read on the internet makes me hate mankind. Thanks for helping to restore my faith a little.
good 4 you for adopting an older dog, too many people think they can handle puppies and they just end up giving them away
hope you find a new dog that will give you joy :)

well at least he died close to someone who loved him
wait I was gonna sympathize with you but come to think of it... you adopt an old dog, knowing it doesn't have much time and it dies and then you come on here saying your life is fucked... wat did u expect?
Ouchhhhhhhhh :( I'm sorry
aww, but at least you were nice enough to adopt an older dog. Older animals have the hardest time when their owners can't keep them, because no one wants them.
aw, but that was still really sweet of you. he died in a good place with someone who loved him.

You should be happy knowing that he died having a home and someone who cared for him.
This shouldn't be a FML. Be happy that you were able to give him a nice place to die instead of rotting away in a pound. I adopted an 8 year old German Shepherd that was also in the pound for several months. Even though it's sad and it sucks when they die so soon, at least they were happier than being stuck in a cage lying in their own waste.
I was going to say this as well, maybe he was on his way out and was waiting just for someone like you to come along and "save him" from dying in a shelter. Animals are much more perceptive of such situations then we give them credit for.
HAHAHA, that's fucking perfect :D
Aww :] This isn't an FML, the dog died happy and knew it was loved. This makes me happy, good for you for being a good person :D
was the dog named Chill by any chance?
This is more of the dog's FML. It would go something like this. "Today after waiting forever to get adopted I finally get a loving home. I go outside to take a dump and die. FML"
Here's a wonderful suggestion. The next time you adopt an animal from a shelter, try adopting the younger animals. =) They live longer.
I just got a kitten from the adoption shelter and she's 2 months old and she is very happy now.

The older animals need love too.. and they're usually the ones that are always looked over. It was very good of the OP to adopt an older dog, and I hope this doesn't deter her from adopting another older one.
How could you say that?? Just because a dog is older he doesn't deserve a loving home? If anything, he deserves it more because he was loved for so long and then tossed aside because people think like you. And, kittens can't die?
#48 - On 10/30/2009 at 9:13pm by rothenb
i'm so sorry, OP, but it your dog was 11 years old. it was bound to happen soon. i know this probably doesn't make much of a difference, but at least you hadn't had that dog for 11 years prior and had actually been attached the the dog.
OP, you are an absolute saint. It is totally selfish to think that you shouldn't adopt an older dog or cat because YOU won't have a lot of time with him/her. Just because an animal might be older does NOT mean he doesn't deserve the same love as a baby. I understand it hurts to lose an animal (I lost my dog after 14 years), but then I adopted an 8 year old cat. Sure, I'm not going to have as much time with her as I will with my (also adopted) 2 year old cat, but she deserves as much of a loving home as a kitten.

He doesnt need a home anymore...
At least it got to die happy and in a nice home instead of wherever it was before you adopted it

I'm just echoing everyone else's comments... You did a good thing, OP. I honestly am not sure if I'd be strong enough to adopt an older dog knowing it might die soon. I hope I can be that strong someday.
A sucky experience indeed, perhaps your new pal happened to finally meet its end in a happy way. It could've been worse.
you fulfilled his last wish
he died knowing that he had a home
Concur with the majority of comments here.
My one cat (who died a few years ago) had been in a shelter for over three years. She was energetic and would play, and if you moved slowly you could pet her on the top of the head, but any more than that and she would hiss, half-swat and scoot away. After three years in a shelter, it's hard to know how much they might come around, so I adopted her anyway. You never know unless you give them a chance.
She ended up being a HUGE suck, would rub against me all the time, and rub against my other cat (who was totally bitchy toward her, but she didn't care). Took a while for her to trust, and she always freaked a bit when you picked her up, but in the end, she died a happy, contented cat. Knowing you improved the last while of a pet's life can make it much easier to deal with when they die.
At least your dog died with a home and an owner, and had some affection before he went. I'm sure he trotted into doggy heaven with his tail fully a-wag. ;)
Good for you in adopting a dog like that, but I'm concerned that you "discovered" him dead in the back yard. So you weren't out there with him? You just got him and tossed him in the back yard, and it wasn't even 2 hours that you were with him? If so, that's awful. Dogs need companionship, and any animal that's from a shelter needs a kind word and for you to just be there, in the same vicinity, as they get used to you.
Well, only one thing left to do, and it rhymes with "shmarBQ."
An eleven year old dog? You do know that's pretty old for a dog, right?
HOW CAN YOU HEARLESS PEOPLE CLICK "you deserve it"
Think, you might be devastated now, but think, you would have been more devastated when you adopted the dog, let's say, 2 years ago, and already got attached to it etc. etc.
11yrs.? that dog is old, it probably just wanted to die in a real home, and did so before you noticed some other flaw in it
That sucks, but why did you adopt an 11 year old dog?
Adopt a puppy next time. You knew it was gonna die soon.
you is dumb as hell why would you adopt an 11 year old dog in dog years he's 77 yrs old or older
Maybe he died of happiness, like Odysseus' dog when he finally came home. :D.That's the first thought that came to me. '_' In any case, at least he didn't die alone in an animal shelter. He died outside in the backyard, at his new home. :o
I agree with the previous comment.... You did a great thing adopting an older dog. They really need a loving home. It sounds like he had one, at least briefly, and died having felt a little kindness and love. You sound like a good person.
good for you! you made that dog happy and it died Ina home, not a shelter! good hood good for you. fuck the heartless loosers who don't care about animals who need love! you're amazing! :)
aww this is sad but also a good thing. The idea was to give it a good home before it passed away and no doubt u made it very happy before it died, not having to pass away in cold kennels =)
thats just awful!
#71 - On 11/01/2009 at 7:06pm by chaqibabay
You know, you could get a refund for that if you paid for it...
If it dies within two weeks of purchase you actually get a refund...
Saw it on "Don't get screwed"
why would you adopt an 11 year old dog?
i understand your pain, if you wanna talk to someone heres my number 07764145832
ill be waiting
He was most likely the happiest dog EVER before he died. He got a home and someone who loved him.
I think it's fake... unless you got it off the street, the kennel would have put it to sleep right away if it's that old, because no one is going to get a dog that could die any second. i got a dog once that was like 5 and they were about to put it down really soon. they even lied about the age. they said it was 3.
so yeah, not so real.
When you adopt a dog, they give you a 30 day pet insurance. Meaning if something happens to the animal within 30 days, you get the money back. Sucks for OP though.
That's not true. There are plenty of shelters that adopt out older dogs and many that specialize entirely in finding/providing good homes for the last days, months, and years that older dogs may have left. I've volunteered at a couple.
Oh man, this one just struck me as funny! I'm still laughing. I hope you kept the receipt. Ha ha ha
AWH!!! poor dog! =[ thats so sad!!!!
Anything that old should've come with a warranty.
aww that's awful!
#84 - On 11/07/2009 at 1:45am by suzsmith
atleast u made the dog happy because he wanted a home for several months now
His life sucks since it ended. You should be extrodinarily proud of yourself for giving him a real home for the last few hours of his life. He got to see the outdoors again. He got to breathe fresh air. He got to romp and play in a back yard and feel loved. I know this is almost two months later, so I'm kind of late.. but be happy for him. Be happy for yourself. He didn't die alone and scared in some shelter cage or in some cold, 'smells of death' "vet" office. He died happy. And there's very few eleven year old shelter dogs that get that end.
Good job. Good human. =) and thank you for adopting him.
OMG I'm so sorry, but at least the poor
dog had some care, comfort and love. FYL, and FYDL. ( F your dogs life. )
