Today, I tried helping an old lady with her groceries. When I asked if she needed help she smiled. When I took one of her bags she yelled. I didn't know she was deaf. FML

Make a fist with your right hand, thumb pointing up, and place it flat on the palm of your left hand and move both hands toward her as if you are giving her your fist. It means "help" in ASL. (Won't work in Britain.)

I'm Deaf and I actually voted FYL because it's her own fault for just smiling. When you said something to her she should have made some signal that she didn't understand.
