Today, I went ice skating for my friend's birthday. We had to vacate the skating rink so that they could smooth out the rink for the next session. I don't know how to skate and my friends left me. Not only was I the last one out of the rink, but I had to crawl my way out with everyone laughing. FML

actually, there are lots of skating rinks that still have ice in the summer. How do you think hockey players practice? By playing ball hockey? I doubt it. They also keep them open for summer camp activities when not being used by hockey players (professional or not).

How is she supposed to learn if she doesn't? Second, there are lots of skating rinks that still have ice in the summer. How do you think hockey players practice? They also have private skating lessons in the summer.

Its not that hard to learn how to skate (im not talking about like high speed or backwards and crap but just the basic's) but if it was say your first time then i guess i would have to make you slide.

My advice: sign up for some private lessons and don't say a word. Next time you all go skating you can shock them by skating beautifully. Living well is the best revenge.
Yup, and it doesn't take that long either. I took an 8-week group class and went from barely being able to stand to skating backwards at speed in that time.

perhaps ah_09 didn't phrase it right, but she deserved it for going out into the middle of the ice (which I'm assuming because if she couldnt make it back around the edge then she is just retarded) while not knowing how to skate. And even if you were only skating for 30mins you should have at least learned enough to slowly glide to the edge, its not very difficult.
You obviously deserve it for not being able to ice skate.

Ice skating isn't really something you "learn" to do. You just go out there and move your legs around, fall on your bum a few times, get up again, and then you've got the basics. Enough to keep you from being stranded in the middle of the rink, at least. So I think you deserve it for not trying hard enough... It's not difficult

In high school I taught toddlers to skate by "marching" on the ice. No gliding. Just picking up your feet and walking. FYL for not even figuring that out but somehow making it across the rink. And did you not think of making it over to the boards and using them for help?

I went ice skating for my first time a few months ago, and the zamboni came out and I was the only person left on the ice too. But I am an OK skater, so I didn't have to crawl on the ice but it was still embarassing.

Fuck your friends man, that's so lame. I would be so pissed and not talk to them for awhile. Though on the other hand unless you are REALLY bad at skating, it's not too hard to pick up your feet and "walk" across the ice, I mean they were smoothing out the ice anyways so it wouldn't really matter if you made big gouges in the ice doing it.
But still, your friends should have come help you, so FYL.

something like that happened to me too
i went to the roller skating rink for my friends birthday and when we had to get out so they cld set up for some games my friends left me and i cant skate so i kept falling and couldnt get up but fortunatly my friend went into the rink and helped me up and helped me skate out :)
That is the point in time that, after leaving the ring, you take off one of the ice skates and cut 'em. Adam Sandler had the right idea.
You need new friends. REAL friends wouldn't make you do something you can't do, and they would have helped you off the rink rather than laugh. They sound like prime-time douchebags and I'd tell every one of them to go pound sand.
