The way this FML is written, it doesn't sound like the OP's side affair was a sexual thing. It sounds like something deeper (note he said seeing, and not fucking/screwing/sleeping with) and it certainly doesn't sound like he was in love.
And if I am indeed correct, I would commend him for manning up and fixing the situation. It took him three months, but this sort of thing (breaking up with someone and starting anew with someone else) is hard to do. I'm sure he doesn't hate everything about the current girlfriend and he doesn't love everything about the new one, and this could lead to him being tangled in all kinds of conflicting emotions.
It's not his fault that his mom stepped into this messy situation and added an extra element to it.

For those who don't get it a few mothers a great to pick on things, he hid his cheating on his girlfriend- most likely the mother thinking her son was a good man. He most likely showed happiness to his mother and because the mother only knew of his one girlfriend- she most likely believed it to be because of her.
