I'm curious what flight sim you are using also. Many years ago when I was taking flying lesson I stopped using flight sims because I found it annoying how inaccurate they were. "As real as it gets" my ass...

It's Microsoft's Flight Simulator X (MSFS10) with many study level addons and an ATC network (VATSIM) :)

My son plays video games allll the time & some are pretty cool. I enjoy playing with him, Mortal Combat X & Assassins Creed are my faves just to name a few. Instead of bitching at your kids take part in what they enjoy.
