Maybe he bought it so you could spend time together hiking or going for nature walks? He might have wanted to bond with you rather than buying a gift for you to be selfish about.

Use it when you're sitting in the back seat and he's driving you around, to provide recommendations on optimal route. He might get so annoyed and utter the magic words: "IF YOU KNOW SO MUCH, I'LL GET YOU A DAMN CAR. JUST SHUT IT ALREADY!". And voilà! Your true gift materializes.
