Today, I went to the library to get work done. Like every Friday a swarm of children took over the computer lab and started playing games on the lap tops. Yelling at each other across the room, swearing every other word, running around the library, bumping into people. Librarians don't care. FML

You should have went up to the librarians and told them to talk to the kids, if they refused, I probably would have got more insistent and demanding about it. Maybe even talked to them myself about their bad behaviour if it wasn't fixed by the staff. This is a library, not an arcade or a playground. People go their to work and read in peace. I'm actually really surprised they were like this, every librarian I've ever encountered is really strict on the "be quiet" rule.

OP, I feel you. I haven't been in your situation, but I quit going to the library except to pickup and drop off books long ago for just this reason. My guess is they don't pay the librarians enough to care! I browse books online and put them on hold that way. But, I'm fortunate to have internet at home. Truly, I feel your pain. Best of luck, OP! ☺️

OP here. I didn't complain, because it happens every single week and the librarians rarely do anything. If they do they just say "Please be quiet" which keeps the kids quiet for about a minute or two and then they start back up. It's terrible and I have no idea why no one does anything or why there are never any parents around. There's even a designated area of the library for children. I wish they would make the ill behaved ones stay there. There was even one little girl watching videos that kept laughing loudly. Other patrons shooshed her, but she couldn't hear them with her headphones on. So obnoxious. My husband lost his job, so we had to cancel our internet service at home. I really rely on the library to get my work done. Anyway, life goes on. Thanks for listening to me vent.

Wow, that's truly awful, and you actually need to be there, the kids don't and can probably find another place to play games. I don't understand how their parents didn't teach then how to act in a library, or just in public for that matter, sounds like they're unnecessary loud for even a normal public situation. I wonder if there's higher up staff or organization you can complain to. In my city, if a place isn't following rules for their establishment, we have a designated organization to deal with them and those issues. In any case, I hope things get better OP, maybe there's another library you can find that has customers with better etiquette.

I used to work in a library. When kids were there it was awful. The librarian should have done something, it's there job. FYL

libraries suck. and this is from a book lover. punk ass book jockeys

"Like every Friday"? Sounds to me like you knowingly picked a terrible time to visit the library. YDI.

There are these things called schedules. Sometimes they can't be altered, and you have to choose the bad time because the other option is "never." Maybe you should stop and think that, if OP know the kids will be there, but goes to the library that day anyway, it COULD be they don't have a choice?
