Today, I was out with my boyfriend, and I had an epileptic fit. He had never seen me have one, and it freaked him out. He rang me later to dump me, as he didn't want to go out with someone who acted like a 'spaz' in public. FML

Hey guys, thanks for posting all your comments, I have read them all. Firstly i'd like to say that epilepsy is a condition that can't be helped, so i'm kind of stuck with it and its not necessarily genetic. I am proud of who I am and I wouldn't change who I am even if I could. Secondly, I did tell my ex that I had epilepsy, I told him straight away so he was aware of my condition; to not tell him would have been unfair. Thirdly thanks to all the people who understand what its like and have written messages of support, I really appreciate it. To those who have written 'negative' comments, you are entitled to your own opinion, just don't share it with me. Being called a 'spaz' or saying that 'i'm sick' or 'not normal' is uncalled for. I'm currently studying Medicine at Birmingham Uni to try and help those like me, and all i'm going to say is how ironic would it be if one of you who have said i'm 'not normal' came into a hospital where I was working and I saved your life...I guess you wouldn't be saying stuff then. Again, thanks for all the positive comments :)

I don't see how this is a YDI. If he knew you had epilepsy then he's a total bastard. If not I can understand why it would "freak him out". I've seen my cousin have one and it isn't a nice thing to witness.

Everyone who says "herpa derp he probably doesn't want his kids to have epilepsy, lol" should ******* google epilepsy. It is in no way genetic, nor is it even lifelong. In fact, it's more commonly a side effect of surgery than not. My god, you idiots. It's one thing to be ignorant and another to act like you aren't. I can't help but wonder if some of you even know what it is. You're acting like it's down syndrome or something.

HAHA #111 you are a genius! way to stick it to these ignorant people! i have a friend who loves someone with epilepsy but her snob rich parents forbid her to see him because they said hes sick and she would have sick babies. people are so dumb i swear

I agree with haeckels. :/ A lot of you should learn more of what epilepsy is before you say something that's FALSE and make yourself look like a total idiot. Even if OP didn't tell him you had epilepsy, he wouldn't have freaked out and dealt with the whole situation so immaturely if he cared about you. So your obviously better off with someone else. Its really sad how a lot of people are these days. There's no way this is a YDI.

That's really messed up. I have epilepsy too and my boyfriends who were there for the worst totally accepted it. I feel bad for you and really want to give you a hug.

OP please do us all a favor and kick the guys balls! and if anyone says anything, I'm sure I speak for all of us when we say it was for the people on FML. =)

it sucks yes but op almost deserves it for not telling the boyfriend about her condition.

44, They say YDI to this because people are jerks.

Sorry about that. My sis has it, too, and it's pretty scary. Make sure you never skip breakfast, and never let people stress you out.

I'm sorry, he sounds like a real asshole. I'm happy that you're studying medicine, I hope it goes well!
