Today, I took my 12 year-old to the orthodontist. While I was talking to the dentist about what was needing to be done, my daughter listened. With a straight face, the dentist joked, "Yeah, we're going to need to rip off her entire jaw." My daughter won't leave her room anymore. FML

Probably would've been best to keep that joke to himself...

Come on people the girl is twelve and already having enough problems simply going to an orthodontist. How should she know that it isn't an actual procedure? Me personally I would change doctors this one showed unprofessional behavior.

My orthodontist did the same thing until he saw terror in my eyes then smiled and said that I gave is favorite response of that week Have fun with that one op

Ugh... this is why kids get scared of the Dentist. I'm not saying Dentist's shouldn't joke around, but not like that around little kids.

Whether she knows deep down that it was a joke or not, she probably pictured her jaw being ripped out and now she's scared. I would probably get really freaked out if a doctor said that to me when I was 12. Especially the ortho. A lot of people hate/are frightened when going to the ortho.

Hope she realizes it was a joke although can't blame her I was scared when I had to go to the orthodontist, also what he said wasn't ok even if it is a joke hope that won't scar her for life

This is why I'm glad I don't have to go to the orthodontist any more

ummm thats complete bull. no matter your age you still should be going to the dentists.

Hard to blame the dentist but he should have been a bit more professional. Especially if the parent mentioned their kid was nervous to begin with
