Smart people :P
Where does it say he took it without permission?
first!
You're either a really bad troll, or a really good one.
if it really had expired 12 years ago you would be in no condition to post an fml
As long as the can wasn't dented, leaking, or swollen, you'll be fine. The quality of the contents will deteriorate over a long time, but as long as the can hasn't begun to bulge or leak, it won't kill you.
Tomato soup probably keeps pretty well in a can for that long. This actually happened to me once, I found a stash of canned soup at my bf's house and yelled out if I could have some veggie soup, he said sure, I cooked it and ate it no problem but then he told me, woops, that's the old Y2k preparation stash (haha) from 10 years ago they were about to throw out after forgetting about for years. Soup tasted fine to me.
when o loved on san Diego I remember my roomate had 5 yr old boxed mashed potatoes in the cupboard lol ... btw YDI

Oh damn. Didn't it have a smell of some sort?
Dude...the FIRST thing I check with canned food from anywhere is the expiration date. YDI for assuming everything in your parents' house is edible. We have canned/boxed food in this house from 10 years ago that my boyfriends' mom won't throw away cause "it's a waste of food", yet she won't eat it herself.
