Today, I found out that the built in lighter in my car does NOT in fact glow red when hot. I now have circles burned into my finger. FML

What in the world made you think it was a good idea to stick your finger in there?? Especially if you don't know how those things work...?

Well it has happened to me before...by accident of course.

I remember doing this...as a bored and unattended 8 year old.

Well, you learn something new everyday.

If you stick your finger into the socket it'll cool it down. You'll be fine OP

I've thought about sticking my finger in there to test its heat too. Then I realize that its made for smoking cigarettes, not flesh. Though the cigarette wouldn't light, my flesh was spared a burn.

They never get red anymore which they should but if you push that in and when it clicks back out you know it's hot...hence I have mine in my console so that way I don't need to worry about it

I did this once, it was an old car from the 80's, I wasn't sure if it worked, being a bit inebriated and not a smoker, my finger was used. hurt a bit, but I was used to burns on my hands and fingers from my work, no red glow or heat emitting from it that could be felt while hovering a hand over it.

Same thing happened to me when I was about 10 or so. It left my finger throbbing and turned blue. I'm 29 now and still remember the pain.
