It's funny how almost everyone here is calling the OP's girl stupid when they're the ones who don't know what she does. Little known secret: conteaceptive pills can be used as vaginal suppositories just as effectively with fewer side effects (nausea, indigestion, etc). It's more likely just regular failure that happens even when the pill is taken orally. And save your outrage. I'm an MD.

You don’t use standard oral contraceptives that way, though, which is presumably what OP’s girlfriend was trying to do. There are pills that are made to be inserted but I don’t see any evidence that this prescribing approach is actually used outside of studies.
