Today, I found out when my new roommate said she was self-employed, she really meant unemployed. She insists that I let her stay for free or she will file a sexual assault case against me. Rent is due on the 10th. FML

Start recording every conversation if you live in a one party consent state, then call the cops and have her busted for extortion. If you live in a two-party state, you might want to find a lawyer. Either way, this ******* sucks.

Go to police, file a complaint. Have a record that she threatened with sexual harrasment suit because you found out she lied. Then get her removed by police from your apartment, just say you're not comfortable returning while she is in your property trespassing and threatening harassment. That's it, that's all you need to do. Record report! This is quite popular threat, manipulation tactic, protect yourself and don't let the parasite stay

Either way I would have told the OP to get a lawyer. People like his new roommate tend to know how to schmooze the police even if there is a long list of men she’s done this to. Also talk to a lawyer and find out how fast she can get evicted and explain your case in detail. Most counties at least in the city have self help desks that help with free advice. Be prepared to have the police called as retaliation, and for her to say stuff like you and her were “dating” and she’s lived there for years longer than you have and own or are on the lease for the place and you aren’t.

Also, do this before it gets to 30 days. Depending on the state, after 30 days she has tenant rights.

Confirmed. If you are in a one-party consent state, get her threats on record. Then go to court and get a restraining order to force her to move.
