Today, I went on a date with a girl I like. Afterwards, I drove her home, and we just sat there awkwardly. I thought she wanted to kiss me but was nervous, so I jokingly said, "What're you waiting for? Christmas?" I guess she took that as a "Get the hell out", because she broke into tears and left. FML

Wrap yourself in Christmas paper and sit outside her porch. It's a flawless plan. Bonus points if you are wearing a Santa Claus suit.

She probably thought you meant "what are you waiting for to get out of my car" not "what are you waiting for to kiss me"

Well I'm a lot older than either of you, I would imagine, and I'd still interpret your remark the way she did. The only difference is, in her shoes I wouldn't have let you see me cry. You need to explain yourself quickly, because the longer you leave it, the more awkward it will get.

While I would not have cried, I would have interpreted it the same way she did - to get out. Why would you even make a comment like that? You could have just kissed her, you fool. YDI

I would have said, "I thought that was what you were waiting for."

Knock on her door the next day holding a mistletoe! :) hope everything goes well OP

Gotta go in for the kiss dude, don't wait for her to make the move. If she didn't immediately get out, she was probably waiting on you. Worst case you get a slap in the face, but you at least tried.
