Today, after several years spent hung up on my ex, I was finally moving on. I was on a date with my new boyfriend when my ex walked past us. He broke down crying, got on his knees, and begged me to come back. FML

Today, after three months of hooking up and talking about dating, the man I was supporting emotionally went back to his ex, who'd reduced the restraining order on him to a no abuse order so they could be together. He left me in his bed to go be with her. FML

Today, I found out that after reuniting with an old boyfriend, getting close with his two year old son, and moving closer to him to properly be a part of their lives, he got back together with his ex wife. FML

Today, I finally got the courage to leave my controlling and manipulative ex. He took it well. And by "took it well", I mean he camped out my doorstep, held some of my belongings hostage, and tried to blackmail me into staying with him. FML

Today, I met my ex from the college, and he invited me to dinner. Back then, he was rude and a bit abusive, but I agreed anyway. The man I saw today is loving, caring and fun, with a good job, and I really liked his wife. On the other hand, I'm between jobs, and my relationship's turned into the utter bore. FML

OP, Dating is both exciting and emotionally risky. Congratulations on opening yourself back up to the possibility of romance after a divorce. That’s not easy. There is a truth to those corny old expressions that emphasize that opening your heart up enables you to feel love. But there are also risks in doing that. All I can say is that the potential rewards are worth the risk, but take it slow and easy in any new relationship. Some people have baggage from prior relationships they are not yet over, some people are dishonest, but there are some gems out there who are honest, loyal, and loving. Take it one step at a time.
