Today, my mate came over wanting me to listen to a new music CD he got. It was by some unknown band, and at the end he asked me what I thought, and I said it was ok but the lead singer couldn't sing even if his life depended on it. Turns out my mate's the lead singer, and it was his own band. FML

Same thing different taste

Today, I went to see one of my favorite bands. When they started playing my favorite song I whipped out my video camera and sang along. As I was reviewing the video later, I realized that I couldn't even hear the band over my horrible singing. FML

Today, I finally worked up the courage to play my friends the demo CD that I've spent all summer recording. I didn't tell them it was me. Not even 10 seconds into the first song, my best friend asked me to turn it off because it sucked. FML

Today, my roommate eavesdropped on me singing. When I realized he was there, he said I was "fucking incredible" and asked me to do another song. There's just one issue: I only sing well when I'm alone. The result was predictably bad. If it was possible to literally die of embarrassment, I wouldn't be writing this. FML

Today, I was with my girlfriend and she was making me listen to one of her recordings for chorus. As I was listening to it a solo came on, and i turned to her and said "This is the worst fucking solo I've ever heard in my life." Little did I know, it was her solo. FML

Today, I learned how to play "Happy Birthday" on the guitar, just to have my friend tell me that my voice sucks, and that I needed to stop immediately. FML

Today, a DJ friend of mine offered me a part in one of his tracks. I was flattered, and accepted. All I ended up singing was, "I'm a bitch, I'm a bitch" over and over again in the background. FML

Today, I was in an elevator when some awkward geeky-looking guy walked in. He asked me how my day was, but I said, “You’re not my type, don’t even try.” An hour later, I was at a concert. Today, I attended a musical. A new song was played, and I thought I'd heard it before because it sounded strangely familiar. I sang along quietly as the song progressed, positive I knew it. Anticipating the next chorus, I belted out the lyrics with all my heart. It was instrumental. FML

Agree with #1....he didn't tell you whose band it was before he got your opinion on the subject because he wanted an honest opinion out of you. You gave him one- he should've told you it was his band before asking an opinion if he was just fishing for a compliment.

Fact of the matter is, singing takes less effort then most people give credit for. Most bands would not even be popular if they didn't edit there voices. Anyone can sing, but to sing good it has to be exercised like a muscle, either that or its a born skill, you can suck at it for the rest of your life.

Actually it's more than that. Lung capacity and diaphragm have to be exercised, as you said, like a muscle. But there's also a lot of ear training. And it takes a while to be any good at singing, to the point that, also as you said, at lot of major recording artists wouldn't be able to do anything without studio trickery.

It's not FYL it's FHL. I can imagine him posting a similar one here: "Today, I had my friend evaluate my band's record. When I asked him what he thought of the music, he responded, "It's ok, but the lead singer couldn't sing even if his life depended on it." I'm the lead singer. FML"
