Cut the apron strings

Today, at 30 years-old, I can finally move out. I could have chosen an apartment close to work, but instead I decided to stay close to where my mother lives. Since I told her, she's been complaining that I'm selfish and I'm creating a lot of problems for her by moving so far away. I'll be living half a block from her. FML

she's either worried about the money, or enmeshed. to me it sounds the latter. if she's enmeshed, set boundaries and stick to them. don't let her have a key, don't leave your keys where she can pick them up, and don't let her keep dropping by unannounced. she will be up your butt all the time. this is your time to shine and be an independent adult, congrats!

It's bullshit that you doubled everyone's living expenses by moving barely away. Very stupid and selfish of you!

As someone in their 30's who recently moved back in with his mother due to her health conditions. Enjoy your independence! I have no problem taking care of her but I sure do miss the ability to stop by and then go home. You are doing nothing wrong.
