A teacher's burden

Today, a parent came into my class and told one of my 6 year-old students that their grandma died. Then the parent left. The kid started crying from the news, which then got all the other students crying. I spent the rest of the day comforting a class of kids crying over someone else's grandma. FML

Kids will cry over anything, although it sucks you have to deal with it. Sorry charlie. And how shitty of the mom to just come by tell the bad news and leave.

The kid's mom didn't take him/her home? Jeez.

Ok- first, I don't think this is an FML. It's just part of the job. On the other hand, just because someone had a hard time doing the right thing or didn't enjoy it, doesn't invalidate the fact that the thing they did was good. Has nobody here done something they didn't like knowing that they were doing it for the right reason?

More of an FML for the kid, IMO...

How is this your FML? Your grandma didn't die. A parent walked in, told the 6 year old their grandparent died, then left? Hmm...interesting.

Why is this a FML? And bad parenting, but I suppose emotional trauma made her not realize her mistake.
