Today, while talking with a coworker, we discussed a weekend home invasion scenario. It was then that I realized my social circle is so non-existent, that my job would notice I'm gone before my friends would. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, my social life consists of eavesdropping on my two coworkers chatting. FML
Today, I returned home from a three-week vacation. None of my friends realized I'd been gone. FML
Today, I was leaving work when I realized I had forgotten my bag on my desk. As I went back to get it, I overheard my co-workers talking about "last night's office party." I wasn't invited. FML
Messed up
Today, as I returned home, I noticed some movement inside my house. Thinking it was a break-in, I called 911. It was my friends and some coworkers trying to throw me a surprise birthday party. Nobody's said a word to me since. FML
Have fun!
Today, I worked from home and, by coincidence, it was the day that my partner was going away for the weekend with some friends. When one of them picked her up, I noticed that the other friend's husband was going on the trip. So other husbands are invited… but not me. FML
Today, I realized that the only times I get to hang out with my friends outside of school are when one of them accidentally mentions plans in front of me and they are obligated by social protocol to invite me. FML
Today, I got locked inside my office again by my co-workers because they had forgotten I was still around when they left. This happens 1 or 2 times a week. FML
Today, it was my second day at my new job as a bank teller. I got locked in the vault while alarms were being tested. I was in there for an hour and none of my coworkers had even noticed that I'd gone missing. Gee, thanks. FML
The Crying Game
Today, I noticed that my weekend hobby is crying. I live in a city where I don't have a single friend or relative. FML
Classic
Today, at work, I casually mentioned I was meeting some friends for dinner. My co-worker's response was, "You have friends?!" FML

Work friends still count as friends, and if you're not in school then you would need to actively go out and make friends. Form better relationships with co-workers and from there your circle can get wider :)

Maybe you should look into finding some more friends for safety reasons

It doesn't matter how many friends you have, it is the quality of friends that counts. As you grow older friends will drift away as interests change and you have less in common. You will pick up new friends as you go along. When you reach old age if you still have one or two friends from your youth you are doing well. Also it doesn't matter if your friends are dumb, a little crazy, purple, martian, embarrassing or whatever as long as they are loyal and there when you need them is all that matters, the same goes for you.

Make friends. Not flaky ones that are only in it for their own gain, but ones you can count on, and vice versa. It's better to have a few good ones than hundreds of bad ones.

I wouldn't worry too much OP, this is probably the case for 90% of single adults who live alone. I have a fairly large friendship group but id imagine it would still take a month to raise any concern

To be honest, the average person spends more time at work than they do socializing with friends. Plus, work tends to have a steady schedule, meaning that the company knows if it is unusual for employee X to not be at work on Tuesday. On the other hand, depending on how close you are to your friends, you can be very close but not talk more than one a week.

You aren't wrong. If you don't show up for work one day, please tend to notice that more.

Mine too. I like it that way

Was there any discussion of the scenario wherein your home is invaded on the weekend and you go to work on Monday with a story of how you successfully defended yourself from criminals? If not, why not?

Surely this is the case for everyone? I mean, even if you have friends who see often, not hearing from a particular friend for one weekend isn't going to raise any alarm bells - you'd assume they've got other plans, or they've gone to visit family, or they wanted a quiet weekend etc. Whereas it's always odd if you miss work without calling in.
