Today, while mourning my friend's recent passing, my dad told me to shut the fuck up because "worse things are going on in the world". FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I told a co-worker to "lighten up, and stop wearing black all the time, it makes you look depressed." I didn't know his father had died the week before. FML
Compassion
Today, while crying at my grandma's funeral, I was told to "man up". FML
Thanks, I feel better!
Today, my dad told me, in the form of a soliloquy, to have a better attitude about death and dying. I have terminal cancer. FML
Internet words IRL
Today, I decided to open up to my friends about losing my dad last year. To my horror, all they could do was laugh at and mock me, all because I said that he "unalived" himself. FML
Arseholes
Today, it was dad’s funeral and I intended to speak but I was crying so much I couldn’t finish and mom had to help me back to my seat. Unfortunately, most of our family are arseholes and I could hear someone saying, “Disgraceful, shaming his dad like that.” It was the worst day of my entire life. FML
Support system
Today, I tried to tell my dad that I was really struggling with my mental health and didn't think I could stay alive much longer. He laughed. This comes after telling my "best friend" last week and having to wait three days for a reply. FML
Today, my dad stood by and nodded in agreement as my sister told me that my clinical depression is "getting REALLY old." FML
Angry man
Today, I learned that now that my mom is dead, and my dad doesn't need my emotional support during her illness anymore, he's going to go back to insulting me every time he talks to me. FML
Empathy lives
Today, my mom walked in on me crying in my room and yelled at me for being a "weak little crybaby." I’d just found out my best friend died in a car accident. When I told my mom that, she said, "Does it look like I fucking care?" FML
Gatekeeping grief
Today, after my cousin recently died, my aunt basically told me that I shouldn't be sad, because we fought. FML

Yeah, the Glee dude died. I'm sure your friend was an OK person, but he couldn't hold a candle to the Glee dude!

#16, actually, I shouldn't. Obviously, I'm making a joke to a total stranger and the dad is serious to his own flesh and blood. I don't know how you can even compare us!

Yikes. Sorry about your friend.

The worst thing going on is when your insensitive dad opens his mouth. Sorry for your loss OP

What a disgusting and ignorant remark; for so many reasons. There is no comparison in human suffering.

I hate it when people say that. "Oh you shouldn't feel bad because people are starving in the world." That, in no way, directly affects me or anyone in my life and how they feel, and its stupid and insensitive to say things like that when you have no idea what someone is going through.

It seems your dad is lacking sympathy and more importantly, empathy. Sorry for your loss OP.

Your father acted in a very rude way. He should have known that your friend was important to you. Sorry for your loss, OP.

I am sympathetic, but from your wording, maybe you were talking about it too much or too long to someone who isn't empathetic. Try a different shoulder to lean on. Your dad could be in his own crisis that he has shielded you from. I know I will get downvoted here--just trying to see both sides.

I'm sorry OP but your dad is very inconsiderate! People deal with death in so many different ways and the amount of time can't really be determined.
