Today, the last person I invited to my birthday party called and said they couldn't come because another party "came up" and they "hope I understand". It's on December 31st. This happens every year without fail. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was uninvited from my own birthday party. FML
Today, I got officially uninvited to a party. This is the third one this month. FML
Party hard
Today, I sent out a note to 300 friends saying that I'm having a birthday party in a couple of weeks. I asked to please write back if they are interested in coming. Two people replied. They said they can't make it. FML
Today, it's been weeks since I made a Facebook page to arrange something for my birthday as no one was able to attend last year on short notice. Everyone was game but now everyone is flaking. One friend even said, "I'll see who RSVPs and then decide." FML
She noped out of that one
Today, I'd planned a surprise party for my best friend's birthday. However, she apparently found out about it and told me at the last minute she couldn't make it, probably to avoid being the center of attention. I'd already invited all of our mutual friends, so I had to awkwardly cancel the party. FML

Today, I invited my only friend to my birthday party and she said no, not because she couldn’t go, but because she didn’t want to. FML
Today, all of my friends bailed from the birthday party I was throwing myself. This was also after they had encouraged me for months to have one, knowing I'd never had my birthday celebrated before. FML
Thanks everyone
Today, I'd organized a small dinner with immediate family for my birthday. I’ve since received texts from every one of them, cancelling due to varying reasons. My parents excuse is the funniest - they went out last night for a coworker’s party, and don’t want to go out again tonight. For me. Their child. FML
Today, I had a big party planned. All but one of the guests cancelled. See you at 7, mom. FML
Today, I was invited to a party. Since I rarely get invited to any, I was super pumped. Both my parents work late, so I texted a couple of people to see if I could catch a ride. It turned out everyone's cars were full. I ended up missing one of the only parties I've ever been invited to. FML

This happens occasionally to me because my birthday is on Valentines day, and it turns out people would rather have some romantic ******* than celebrate my birthday! But FYL

Get different friends. There is almost nothing ruder than backing out of a party because a "better" one came along. If you say you'll go, you go, unless you're really sick, someone you love dies or you get summoned to the White House that day.

I have to go against the grain and agree with #41 here. It's funny how people are telling the OP she's selfish for wanting a party on her birthday, yet backing up their logic with such things as "...understand that people would rather being out partying during the holidays than hanging out with you," which is selfish all in it's own. Partying with whom? How come the hosts of the parties that the friends are attending aren't selfish too? Obviously, THEY'RE throwing a party and expecting company as well...which, using said brilliant logic, leads me to believe that they're also selfish to think anyone would want it to spend the holidays with them. So are the attendees who are choosing which parties *they* want to go to, instead of making an appearance at every invitation. The reasoning above pretty much applies to everyone ever throwing or attending a party, and therefore it's pretty ridiculous to call the OP selfish. Think outside the box, people. OP, I think you need some new friends. If your friends are agreeing to come, but only under the stipulation that they can't find "anything better to do", and then canceling if they DO find something "better", then those are shit friends. I had a couple people like that in my life, and while I didn't notice how much drama they really were causing during our friendship, I realized I was drama-free after booting them. Getting rid of friends ain't exactly the easiest thing to do on this planet, but neither is sitting alone on your birthday in a pile of broken promises. And while I feel we're not getting the whole story, I also have a feeling that not a single one of those friends invited you out to whatever they were doing. That's also pretty shitty. I hope something works out for you, and the people that really mean something are actually there for you. The rest who don't bother to acknowledge you aren't worth getting worked up over. Have a good birthday and a Happy New Year!!

such an intelligent reply. so smart, it completely goes over my head who you're even referring to.

Although I recognize the fact that you comment was a smart and well though out response, it's a ******* essay. And if there's one thing I learned spending countless hours on the internet, it's that such a long response must earn the reply "lol fag". So there.

Well, I wasn't talking to you dear, now was I? I was talking to the OP. If you don't want to read it, it's as simple as this: don't read it. You admit to spending countless hours on the internet...what's five minutes of an essay? And then wasting even a half minute of your time to write an asshole reply is ridiculous. Especially something completely unrelated...fag? Really? How mature.

thats my bday too. crazy time of year, so it sucks, but there are more things going on than just the birthday. it just stinks she couldn't have at least made a little time for you.

My birthday too. Not only is everybody broke from Christmas, alot of people are out of town. I never really get to do anything for my birthday but I figured I'd try this year since its my 18th. My bff is normally in another state but she got to stay home this time. And she still won't be hanging out with me that night.

I know what your sayin. My birthday is on the 26th and nothing ever happens even with my non-christian friends save one who I've known since 5th grade. I can remind some people on the 23rd and they'll forget even.
