Today, our power went out due to some severe storms. My daughter, who is 18, asked me why the lights on the car still worked. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, after a power outage at my house, my 14-year-old brother was genuinely confused as to why our flashlights still worked if we had no electricity. FML
Funny how?
Today, I drove to a party after getting my car back from the shop. A thunderstorm started as I made my way there and upon arriving, the power went out. The guests decided to watch the storm from the front windows when someone mentioned how funny it would be if a tree fell on my car. Seconds later, one did. FML
Survivalist
Today, during a storm-related power failure, I jerry-rigged an inverter from my car to supply the essentials. In doing so, I managed to blow up the fridge, smoke and all. The power came back on 5 minutes later. FML
Today, the power went out at school. If it's out for more than twenty minutes, standard procedure is to let us go home. They came back on almost nineteen minutes later. FML
While the cat's away…
Today, I knew my wife and kid wouldn't be home until later, and I was excited to play video games and relax. The second I turned my computer on, the power went out. It came back on as my wife was pulling into the driveway. FML
Snow Day
Today, my power went out due to a huge snow storm. I was in desperate need of candles and flashlights. I had to walk to the store since the roads were closed. I walked 4 miles in the blizzard. When I got home, the power came back on. FML
Today, I woke up to find my power was out. After taking a shower in the dark and being unable to make myself lunch, my power came on two minutes before I had to leave for school. FML
Blackout
Today, I was at my grandparents' house, when the power went out. Even though we were supplied with candles and flashlights, we still had to stumble around in the darkness. They'd left both the candles and flashlights in the pitch black, unnavigable basement. FML
Today, a strong storm knocked the power out at our office. I was dismissed five hours early, had my desk locked up and was walking toward the doors to leave when the power came back on. FML
Today, the power was out. I tried to explain to my boyfriend that he wouldn't be able to watch any TV until the power came back on. His response was, "But we have Netflix." FML

Your a moron, even hybrids don't need to be plugged in to work. They only need to be plugged in to recharge

To be fair, I can understand what she was thinking: She probably thought that power goes out due to some kind of "EMP effect" caused by lightning, and that it wasn't the electric company turning off the electric, but rather, that the electric in the sky caused all nearby electronics to temporarily die. Heck, I'm studying as an engineer, and I still have no idea why they turn off power during storms.

128: I think it goes off because stuff (like tree parts) falls on the power lines and break/damage them
LordGoober 13
166- Or lightning strikes the like or a step-up/step-down transformer and blow it therefore stopping the flow of electricity.

Tell her it's being powered by your mind, see if it scares her

120 - You're a retard. You don't plug in hybrids, the electric motor is charged by the gas motor and brakes.

Sometimes people say stupid things. That's why we invented the internet: it collects the stupidity so it can't hurt as many.
instnt1nfction 17
I think you mean it collects the stupidity and shows it to the rest of the world Ex. The comment above
xlord 27
The Internet provide anonymity so that stupid and smart people garner the same respect until someone says something dumb and shows the entire world how dumb the average person is

Tell her static energy in the air makes it work--tell her it's actually slightly brighter in a severe storm, I'm sure she'll check.
