Today, my students presented their projects on genetics to the rest of the class. One student told the class that salted and unsalted peanuts were an example of genetic variation. She was serious. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, my teacher was giving a lecture about human genetics and how they are passed on to children. She projected a large picture of a baby on to the screen in the front of the room. I then joked about how this ugly baby must have some very unattractive parents. It was her baby. FML
Today, I had to teach my 13-year-old sister that sugar and salt don't, "cancel each other out to make the taste neutral". FML
You old fool
Today, after repeatedly telling my partner's family that our daughter is allergic to peanuts, his grandfather decided to feed her one, to "see if she really is allergic." FML
Knowledge is power
Today, I said that I wasn't expecting someone to say salt made a food sweet. My friend then decided to explain what salt is, a flavor enhancer, and "like when it's on the rim of a Margarita." Really? We're all in college and I'm the only one who keeps their grades up. I know what the fuck salt is. FML
Today, my biology professor was giving a lecture to everyone and used me as an example. For what? Traits men are repulsed by in potential mates. FML
Today, my son came home from school with a catastrophically bad report card. When I asked him for an explanation, he replied, "I'm hesitating between 'family environment' and 'heredity'." FML
Today, as a science teacher, I did a science experiment in front of a class. One of my students asked me if it was "photoshopped." He was being serious. FML
They **** you up, your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do…
Today, I’m getting a very interesting demonstration of how genetics work: I have inherited all my dad’s health issues, plus those from my mom, plus a bunch of new ones that belong exclusively to me. FML
Today, I got a call from my daughter's school. Apparently, she was learning about the food pyramid and when she was asked to identify what she had eaten the day before, she said "dog food". FML
Today, I had to tell my teenage son that no, his knowledge of the English language was not passed down to him genetically. FML

Gasp! Then salted and unsalted pretzels must have the same mutation!
Pleonasm 36
Precisely! It's a lot more probable that they both inherited this mutation from a common ancestor, than this being a case of homoplasy! Now we can establish a phylogenetic tree. Now, to find the last common ancestor...

This would be a good time to take the student to the side and calmly explain her mistake. While that is a pretty horrific mistake, the student is there to learn. Be a teacher :)

It might actually be a good time to re-teach or go over the material again for all the students. Chances are that she's not the only one fuzzy about the topic.

Let's hope she doesn't reproduce at all.

Tell her that her stupidity is an example of genetic variation.
katties 27
I wish that was an actual example :P , but then they're back at where they started - that stupidity is most likely acquired

I don't know. It seems stupid people breed more and beget more stupid people. Didn't you see "Idiocracy"?

Genetic variation? Like how bats gradually grew feathers and became birds because they weren't about that cave life, right?

This is a solvable problem. just pull her aside and explain what was wrong with her entire presentation. hopefully, she'll understand the subject with some extra help.
