Today, my stepson objected to being woken up at almost dinner time. He knows I have PTSD from my 2 tours of duty, so he turned his speakers way up and blasted the sounds of gunfire through the whole house. I hyperventilated and passed out. Little bastard. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I put the little boy I nanny for in time-out. In retaliation he blasted an air horn in my face. I can only hear out of one ear now. FML
Sleepless in Singapore
Today, I was having trouble sleeping due to jet lag. I was finally sleepy and looking forward to a decent night of rest when my 4 year-old woke up and refused to stay in his room or try to rest. The next two hours involved him shouting at me, kicking me, and crying because he wanted Daddy, who is on a business trip. FML
Drowning
Today, my son finally revealed the reason he was always blasting music as a teenager was to drown out the sound of his father and I arguing. FML
Today, I woke up to my 7 year old son angrily trying to smother me with a pillow. FML
Today, I have a cold, and was stuck sleeping in bed. My roommate decided to wake me up by sticking headphones in my ears and playing heavy metal on full volume. This is the third time this week. FML
Today, despite asking her to stop countless times, my stepmom still barges into my room explosively and without warning. I faint when startled. FML
Time for tinnitus
Today, my roommate shouted his entire part of the conversation at the dinner table. He refuses to get his hearing checked, nor lower his voice, so now my ears hurt for the rest of the evening. FML
Jump scare
Today, my partner refuses to get rid of an automatic air-freshener that goes off with a decent noise in our bathroom. I have PTSD and it startles me EVERY time it goes off, even when I try to prepare. At least it’s in an area where I can get the shit scared out of me. FML
We're all in hell
Today, it's the third day in a row my roommate has woken me up with blasting music, after keeping me up late listening to him screaming into his Xbox headset. His kids ate the last of my food. I can't even take a shit without one of them barging in. His whole fucking family is a walking condom commercial. FML
You're in the army now, oh ohoh
Today, my dad set the smoke alarm off at 6 a.m. as a "practice drill." I was woken up so suddenly, I fell out of bed into the bucket of sick I had been throwing up into the night before due to flu. Dad yelled at me for not getting out of the house in time. FML

It's time for you to enjoy a new set of speakers courtesy of your stepson. Strip his room bare of his unnecessary possessions and have him learn respect the hard way.

This is where you go into his room while he's sleeping and smash everything electronic, then sign the little bastard up for boot camp. He'll learn how to wake up at civilized times, and have a better respect for those who served in the armed forces.

that is so calculated and disgusting behaviour. I hope he is punished and you take away his gadgets so that he learns it is not ok to exploit other people's mental well-being like that.

I'd make sure his mother is on board with any punishment you mete out. He might want to drive a wedge between you and her. You need solidarity on this one. In this situation, he is the enemy and you have to set up a united front. Once he realizes he can't pit you and his mother against each other, he may just cave in.

I don’t think that’s the hard way.

Jamaican way too. I would have gotten my behind whooped for a week if I tried to pull this. The only way I'd be allowed to stay in bed that long is with the flu.

calculated and manipulative behaviour. cut that kids ties with anything electronic, little shit needs to learn some respect, not only for his step dad but for a veteran.

You should make that brat do some volunteer work at a clinic that helps people cope with PTSD, in addition to signing him up for military school.

Return fire! Blast a trumpet wake up call just as loud through speakers to wake him up every day for a week I'm sure he'll change his tune after! P.s sorry for the puns, I hope you find coping methods that work for you :)

You need to have a discussion with his mother. Respect goes two ways from parent to child, especially in a stepchild and step-parent house, but this sort of disrespect and vicious behavior is uncalled for, especially from someone who is suffering from such traumatic PTSD. It’s practically sociopathic. You need to explain to his mother how disrespectful it is to you, and how your step-son cannot continue this behavior, and find ways to figure out how to correct it; whether it be taking away his electronics or sending him to a summer boot camp. If she doesn’t see anything wrong with this behavior though, then I think you found the core problem.
