Today, my roommate confronted me about my eating disorder. She described in length how emaciated my chest has become and how she wants to help. Except I don't have an eating disorder. My sternum is deformed and I have only recently become confident enough to wear low-cut tops. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, after I skipped dessert for the third day in a row, my mom cornered me and accused me of being anorexic. I'm actually not far off being clinically obese and I'm just trying to diet, but nothing I say will convince her. She wants me to see a psychiatrist about a disorder I don't even have. FML
Ex-friend
Today, my friend, knowing my mental health is really bad right now, decided to yell out the fact I have an eating disorder, and how she never sees me eat ever, then started to talk about self-harm and how she would never do it despite what she has gone through. All while side-eyeing me when talking to other people. FML
Today, my teacher was talking about anorexia and bulimia. Midway through the lesson, she stopped and knowingly asked if I wanted to share my experiences with the class. I don't have an eating disorder, just a screwed-up metabolism. FML
Today, I admitted to my parents that I have an eating disorder. Instead of trying to help, my mom stared at me and said, "Duh". FML
Today, my mom accused me of having an eating disorder, and I didn't correct her. Truth is, I lost weight after I went off the pill a year ago. I'm too embarrassed to tell my mom that I haven't had anyone in a year. FML
Harsh words
Today, I told my mom that I think I’m anorexic and she told me she didn’t care. When I asked why, in disbelief she replied, "Honey, you are 5’3 and over 350 lbs, at this point you NEED to be anorexic." FML
Bugged
Today, I had a stomach virus, so I didn't eat anything. My new roommate asked me if I was anorexic so to prove I wasn't, I ate a sandwich in front of her. Only to go into the bathroom and throw it up later. She heard and now thinks I'm bulimic. FML
Today, I'm staying with my mother for a week. Every time I eat something, she tells me that it's "swimsuit season" and that I need to eat less. Every time I say I'm not hungry, she panics and insists I have an eating disorder. I can't win. FML
Wow, thanks, I'm cured
Today, I told my mom that I'm bulimic and have been for a few years, and that I needed help. She responded by saying, "Well that's clearly not working for you. Why don't you try anorexia?" She then patted me on the head, smiled, and walked away. FML
We care
Today, my friend spent ages telling me about her friend who is in hospital underweight with anorexia and how she wants to do anything to help because she's so worried. What I wished I could've told her is that my own ED makes me suicidal and I'll probably not survive long, but I'm not underweight so nobody cares. FML

People suck, OP. don't listen to them. Your sternum isn't your fault and I bet you're gorgeous.

Aw, that is really terrible. They didn't know and were just trying to help, but that doesn't make sucks any less.

it's alright I had the same sternum problem and my confience about showing it was low to, but then I got it removed in surgery and now my chest feels and looks better, so surgery is always an option

look my friend has that and she goes swimming and wears low cut stuff people see it but either think nothing of it or ask her politely it's nothing to be ashamed of. and on the inner-outer beauty subject there would be no love at first sight if inner was most important I think first sight outer counts more and after a while it slowly shifts to inner. the more you know a person the more you care about their feelings and not what's wrong with their body or whatever

while that does suck, at least is shows she cares.

So tell her about your condition. And congratulate yourself (and her, I hope) for having a friend who cares enough to confront you about what she sees as a potentially life-threatening situation. She's a real keeper.

people who are commenting, do you realize that OP probably posted this and will probably never come back?? Stop trying to be her life coach. The whole point of comments is to share YOUR opinion, not to be a therapist for the poster. God, you people make this website too heavy and generic.

Your roommate was acting on the information that was available to her: your appearance. You chose not to tell her about your condition, which was your prerogative, but you shouldn't then be upset with her for not knowing that your chest wasn't sunken because you hadn't been eating well. Also, don't mix up her issues about her weight relative to others' with the fact that she didn't know you had a deformed sternum. In your second explanation, you sound like you're annoyed because her comments had some root in jealousy or malice, but in your original post you make it sound like you're annoyed simply because she was wrong about why you look the way you do, though she had no way to be right.

172, the "FML" was not about laying blame or my roommate's inability to know my medical history. As my condition is not life-threatening, I see little point in telling others about it unless they ask. It was an FML because my deformity was misinterpreted as being a sign of poor body image at a time when I was finally becoming confident enough to show my body OFF! The roommate's own body image problems are irrelevent to that core experience, and I brought them up later only in response to people's remarks here. Her issues are not an FML. They're an fherlife.
