Today, my parents and I attended the funeral of my husband's mother. It was open-casket, and my parents went to take a look. My mum muttered, "With a dress that tacky, no wonder she died", and my dad chuckled. A fight quickly erupted, and the police were called. FML

That'll make for some awkward family get togethers...

Feel sorry for you OP.

I was about to post something along the lines of: That'll be a very awkward Thanksgiving dinner. Then I remembered that UK doesn't celebrate it. With that being said I don't think any type of large family gatherings will be happening any time in the near future. You have my most sincerest condolences about your mother in law and about your parents.

It'll be an awkward Christmas dinner. As for you, OP, I'm sorry your parents are such insensitive buffoons.

seriously who says shit like that at a funeral?! sounds like theres something tacky here and its not the dress

That doesn't even make sense. People generally aren't buried in the clothes they die in, so even if in some alternate universe, tacky clothes were a legitimate cause of death, what people decide to dress you in after you're dead wouldn't have much influence on the matter.

I'm highly confused as to how so many people think YDI...

Why doesn't everyone know how to be respectful at funerals?

Well, at least she didn't take beer....

Are you being....dead serious?

With a attitude that horrible, no wonder they got called.

Geez, that was really tacky of your mom. And when did a tacky dress become a legitimate cause of death?

Remember kids... learning to stfu is an important virtue in life! Having a mental filter will prevent you from looking like a jackass. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."
