Today my mother met my in-laws for the first time. She had been an alcoholic and had us sent to foster care 15 years ago. My husband told his parents this behind my back a while ago. When they asked her about it, she denied everything. His entire family now thinks I lie for attention. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Unstable
Today, after agreeing to hang out with my husband and his alcoholic mother after his father’s suicide, my mother-in-law found out that my sister-in-law and I playfully insult each other. She lost her mind and practically bit my head off, relapsed, and blamed my “disrespecting her daughter” on said relapse. FML
One-upmanship championship
Today, my mother topped someone's story of their child's problems by saying I'm on drugs. This resulted in people showing up to stage an intervention for me. She made the whole thing up and I've never used drugs, but no one believes me. FML
Glass houses and all that
Today, my mum got upset with me for having my first hangover ever after being of legal drinking age for over 6 years. She is a closet alcoholic in denial who hides red wine bottles around the house. FML
All over the place
Today, I visited my in-laws, whom I thought I was on great terms with. I soon learned that wasn't the case when my mother-in-law yelled at me about how I've been abusing her for years. Ten minutes later, she hugged me and asked me for grandkids. FML
Thanks, Mom
Today, my family had dinner with my future in-laws for the first time. After a bottle of wine to herself, my mother loudly insisted that I'm out of her will. Apparently, I "molest towels" and leave them to "fester for days" in my "den of depravity." I'm sure they'll give me their daughter now. FML
Denial
Today, my mom took me to an AA meeting because she said I needed help. I have never tried alcohol in my life, and told them this. I was then harangued by the "instructor" because apparently one of the signs of alcoholism is denial. FML
Pants on fire
Today, my mom admitted that her story about my dad leaving us for his current wife was a lie. He left when he caught her with a coworker. She blocked his number and got a restraining order to keep him from telling his side of the story. I haven't talked to my dad for six years because of this. FML
Today, at dinner, I accidentally let it slip that I'd taken a small sip of alcohol a few years ago and hated it. My extremely strict parents are now trying to get me into rehab. FML
How very dare you?
Today, my drunken mother told me I'm just like my father and that I don't give a fuck about her. She's living in my home and drinking my wine. FML
The mask slips
Today, my boyfriend is always telling me I haven’t met his real mother yet, even though I’ve known her a year. However, when I happened to disagree with her today, she started screaming and hitting like a psycho. He had to wrestle her out the door. I get it now; I’ve now met his “real” mother. FML

Your husband's parents kind of seem like douchebags. Is that really something that should be brought up the first time meeting?

Just explain to them that your mom feels bad about it, and felt pressured when they brought up bad times from the past. They shouldn't have been so nosy anyways. Fyl op

your husband should have consulted you op before sharing such personal details with your inlaws. Telling them ''behind your back" was wrong.

Your husband should have asked first. That said however, it's kind of ******* rude to pointedly ask about someones alcohol addiction/giving up of their children when you've only just met them. They crossed a line - what did they expect to happen? FYL for having douchebags for in-laws.

I neither understand why your husband would think it right to tell something this private to his parents without consulting you, nor why they would think it right to confront your mother about something like this. Something is seriously screwed up with your husbands family. You should have a serious talk about boundaries with him, maybe with the help of a counselor. As for his parents? You should be more concerned with how your mother feels, being humiliated and put on the spot like that. If you invite her to meet the in-laws you area obviously not on bad terms with her, I think that's the more important relationship right there.

They had no business asking your mother about that. What a low class couple. I don't know why, but to me, this FML is fake.

Yeah, your in-laws are not so bright. And then turn it on you and call you a liar? Seriously?

What?

they're saying "us, as in siblings" so use the sibling to come tell the in laws that OP isn't lying. as for this, you could if you know where they are. some foster cares split up siblings, which would make that hard to do.

FYL because your husband and his parents are jerks. Yikes.

Why do parents always believe the mother over the child? I know how that sounds but my own mom didn't believe me about my friend's mom being abusive until she disowned both him and his sister and threw them out.

Explain it to them. If you make a point of sitting them down it shows them you have conviction. Also your hubby should talk to them as well since he caused it.
