Today, my mother-in-law complained to me about the cost of getting old. She then spent an hour showing me her River Cruise vacation photos from several countries. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my mother lectured me for not spending enough time with her. We literally just got back from a 10 day vacation together. FML
Dementia or hate? You decide
Today, I spent an hour listening to my mother-in-law go over the details of how happy my husband was at his wedding, while she went through the photo album and stared at the pictures. The wedding with his first wife. I spend several days each month with her taking care of her, and she does this kind of thing every time. FML
Venmo me
Today, my mother-in-law called to find out how the first week of school went for the kids. She spent most of the call complaining about her husband. I'd like to send her a bill for her trying to use me as a therapist. FML
This is gonna be fun
Today, my fiancé suggested we bring his elderly mother with us on our honeymoon. FML
Clean
Today, in the entire half-hour since my mother-in-law reached our home, she's inspected and criticised every aspect of our home, despite things being spot clean. And sermoned me non stop on how to "live". My husband still wonders why I don't want her visiting. It"s going to be a long two weeks. FML
Oh no…
Today, I found out that my mother-in-law is house hunting in my town. There is a house for sale two doors down from me. In her price range. FML
Today, my mother "borrowed" money from my stash to help pay for her vacation to the Dominican Republic. The same trip I'm not allowed to go on. FML
Controlling
Today, two days into our honeymoon, my mother-in-law turned up at our Spa hotel and pretended it was a huge coincidence. We are an 8-hour flight away, yet she tried to claim she had a Spa coupon about to expire, from another country. Nice try Linda you nosy, interfering bitch. FML
Today, my mother in law accidentally cc'd me on an email she was sending to my husband, telling him that his youth is fleeting and that he should leave me while he still has time. FML
All over the place
Today, I visited my in-laws, whom I thought I was on great terms with. I soon learned that wasn't the case when my mother-in-law yelled at me about how I've been abusing her for years. Ten minutes later, she hugged me and asked me for grandkids. FML

Well, she's not wrong there -- those river cruises are expensive! I'm glad the old lady is enjoying her final years on the planet. Of course, she is burning up you and your wife's inheritance, but isn't her joy worth it?

Obviously you're too young to understand. You'll get there OP, you'll get there.

I need more context to decide wheter her complaining was rational. If she worked all her life and this was her first vacation in 30 years it would still be fair to complain about the costs. Because there really is a cost to getting old but income tends to rise as well. Unless she was talking about costs other than finacial ones. Then it would definitely be correct.

You deserve it for being a kind, listening grandchild. Nothing really sucks here...

Doesn't mean the cost of old doesn't still suck..

That's why she's upset about the cost of getting old... it's cutting into her vacation budget!

That's not so bad. Well-off people can complain about money too, if they feel like something need costs more money than it should. People who does see the expensive shit they spend money on as stuff they, so to your mother-in-law her cruises are part of the "cost of getting old".

People grow up and age hearing about all the great fun things that their parents/grandparents got to do once they retired. They are usually upset that not only do they not get to retire young enough to enjoy those things as much, but because retirement isn't realistically possible until they're older, they have higher expenses. A lot of people feel like they've been lied to, and they sort of have.
