Today, my morbidly obese mother gave me an angry lecture at dinner, saying without any trace of irony that my vegetarian diet is "unhealthy and utterly unacceptable". FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Health and wellbeing
Today, I scolded my son at a buffet after he pointed at an obese woman in a motorized wheelchair and asked how anyone could let themselves get so unhealthy. As I lectured him on genetics and thyroid problems, she rolled past with a plate stacked with an obscene amount of fried food. FML
Mean meanie
Today, my stepmother, an uncontrolled diabetic who refuses to change her abhorrent eating habits, berated me for how "mean" I am for limiting my kids’ junk food, and making them eat a portion of vegetables with every meal. Yeah, real mean. FML
Today, despite feeling healthier than ever, losing fat, gaining muscle and having perfect blood results, my morbidly obese relatives keep telling me that my new vegan diet is "unhealthy". FML
My body, my choice
Today, I had to sit and listen in mortification as my mother tearfully told our therapist how much sleep she loses over my being morbidly obese. She doesn't seem to care that I'm body positive and happy with the way I am. FML
Today, after I skipped dessert for the third day in a row, my mom cornered me and accused me of being anorexic. I'm actually not far off being clinically obese and I'm just trying to diet, but nothing I say will convince her. She wants me to see a psychiatrist about a disorder I don't even have. FML
Today, I asked my mom if she could include mashed potatoes and gravy with dinner. She then went on to yell at me about my "unhealthy eating habits" and how I've "gained a lot of weight in the past few months". I'm pregnant. FML
Harsh words
Today, I told my mom that I think I’m anorexic and she told me she didn’t care. When I asked why, in disbelief she replied, "Honey, you are 5’3 and over 350 lbs, at this point you NEED to be anorexic." FML
Today, I decided I need help, so I confessed to my mother that I'm bulimic. After she looked it up online she started screaming at me for "Wasting food that I'm not paying for." FML
Weight watcher
Today, I found out my mother-in-law is trying to force me to lose weight, even though I am trying, and have a medical condition. FML
No jokes allowed
Today, my boyfriend called my mother stupid and angrily argued with her at a family dinner. Why? We have a long-running family joke that "Vegan food doesn't contain calories," and my boyfriend thought my mum said it seriously, and was therefore a moron. FML

Sounds like you need to give her a lesson on what and what's not healthy.

Vegetarians aren't always healthy, you're essentially only cutting out meat at the least. Candy, soda, fried foods, etc. still exist.

Agree, but saying her diet is unhealthy because she doesn't eat meat is plain wrong.

This reminds me of my vegetarian sister and my dad. He, smoking like a chimney, drinking so much beer that his belly is Homer Simpson-like and bathing his food in salt, says my sister shouldn't be a vegetarian, "it's not healthy".

The reason she is so dumb is because her fat is growing in her brain also. Killing cells.

While it is a scientific fact that each pound into obesity speeds up the killing of your brain cells, the death of maybe fifty does not instantly make you dumber.

A vegetarian diet isn't necessarily healthy, nor a nonvegetarian diet necessarily unhealthy. That said, I don't judge people for being vegetarian, and request reciprocating courtesy: I have little patience for people without that basic level of consideration, one it appears your mother did not afford here. I am, of course, assuming that you ARE actually eating a balanced and nutritious vegetarian diet and she wasn't calling you out for subsisting on the equivalent of french fries and ketchup for every meal. Honestly, there are some vegetarian dishes I simply love, and would not object to eating something closer to a veg diet were more good options available where I live. Kudos to you for finding a way to stick with it in spite of sometimes difficult or limited dining options, OP.

I would be telling her to take a long hard look in the mirror on what is healthy and what isn't.

Did your mom slave over the stove all day to cook an Easter dinner that you refused to eat because you're vegetarian? And just as importantly, did she know that you are a vegetarian?

Your mom is tard. Also, iron supplements ftw.

Your mum needs to realise that it's your life and your decisions.
