Today, my history teacher confiscated my iPhone. She dropped it on the way back to her desk, and I now have a shattered iPhone screen to fix. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my parents gave me an iPhone. They then checked my grades online, and promptly took it away. FML
My precious
Today, my new iPhone was stolen from my school locker. After canceling my service, sobbing, having my mom yell at the secretary for their lack of security and finally agreeing to change to a private school, I found it in the corner of my locker. FML
Today, I bought an otter box. While setting up my iPhone, I dropped it and it is now shattered. FML
Today, I shattered my iPhone screen. Pieces of glass are chipping out and can easily slice up any idiot who slides their finger across the screen. Unfortunately, I was that idiot. There's blood in the cracks of my screen. FML
A tale as old as… well, 2007?
Today, I got my phone fixed after the screen had been shattered for four months straight. Then, the moment they handed it to me, it fell straight to the floor and shattered. Again. FML
Today, to keep my phone safe while I went on some rides, I took it out of my pocket so I could put it in my bag. Just as I pulled it out, a woman ran into me, knocking my phone to the ground and breaking the screen. FML
Today, I bought my first iPhone. Today, I broke my first iPhone. FML
Today, after calling the insurance plan for my new iPhone a "huge waste of money", I promptly dropped it in the store while trying to put it into my pocket, cracking the screen. FML
Today, during one of my first days as a teacher, a student stole my phone. FML
Today, I dropped my 400 dollar iphone, that's been through toilets and 6 foot falls, on a walmart floor and shattered the screen. I managed, however, to catch the 2 dollar macaroni and cheese before it hit the ground. FML

Make sure she pays for that

You probably could make her pay for it. Sure you weren't supposed to be using it in class, but that deserved confiscating, not BREAKING. (Also don't they have cases and stuff that you can get so that kind of shit doesn't happen? Otter box or something?)

well here in so cal you aren't suppose to bring phones to school or other electronic devices such as mp3s,so the teacher isn't responsible for it since the student wasn't suppose to have it in the first place..well that's how it is in high school and all the way down..

Tht sucks tht ur phone broke but I would make her pay for it because teachers use their cell phones all the time in class and they even go off in class but there like no big deal until a student cell goes off. Plus I know that teachers like looking through students phones to see what they can find. It happened to me but I had a password to get into my phone and it told me that someone had tried to guess the code to many times.

Then don't play with your phone during class.

Yeah seriously. 1. Make her pay for it 2. Sue her for invasion of privacy. Legit, a teacher taking a phone is considered that and you can sue.

Is it really that difficult to just not use your phone in school?

First of all, you shouldn't have been using it in class. Second of all, you should have had a case on your phone that protects it; not one of those cases that just makes your phone look pretty, BUT PROTECTS IT!

33, 67 is correct....children have no actual "right" to property as per most state laws "no one under the age of 18 has the right to own property, enter into a legally binding contract (business, buy, sell, pawn, rent to own, etc)"..the ownership of the phone actually belongs to the students parent, so only the parent(s) can ask for reimbursement for the screen & the school does have the right to confiscate/search (lockers, backpacks) & seize anything deemed inappropriate or not allowed on school property...students NEED to read their school handbooks & abide by the rules set forth in them...school is school for learning, not a playground for kids to disrespect the teachers & school rules by using phones in class (teachers aren't glorified low paid baby sitters for our kids)

This is in Canada. There are no state laws. In fact, they have a completely different legal system. Most of the people commenting on this thread, including myself, have absolutely no idea what is legal or not in this situation and are talking out of their rear.

When a teacher tries to take my iPhone... I just get up and leave because I know they're gonna ask me to leave when I don't give it to them. It's a 700$ phone.. And if it gets broken in their possession.. They won't pay for it.. If I was in your position I would have gotten up and left lol
