Today, my grandpa saw one of the paintings in the guest room at my house. "What the fuck?" he snorted, then said whoever painted it should "stick to their damn day job". I painted it. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
It's the thought that counts
Today, my toddler proudly presented me a "beautiful drawing" he'd made... on my freshly painted living room wall. When I started to scold him, he said, "But I made it for YOU, Mommy!" Now I feel guilty for being mad at Picasso Jr, and having to paint over it. FML
Bigmouth
Today, my friend showed me a creepy piece of artwork he'd drawn. I laughed and said that it would give me nightmares, meaning it as a compliment. Turns out, this one was in honor of his dead grandmother, who'd raised him. FML
Today, my grandpa came over to help paint our house, as we are renovating it. The only paint clothes he decided to wear were his underpants. The neighbours and builders found this quite amusing. FML
Today, my family was cleaning out our basement when I noticed an empty wall. I asked my grandma if I could put a picture up. She replied, "I don't want your ugly drawings on the wall". I wasn't talking about my drawings. FML
Today, I finished a big art project. It was a self-portrait done in acrylics. Proud of my piece, I showed my mom. After some thought her first comment was, "well, I'm either going to insult your art or your face." FML
Everyone's a critic
Today, I brought my best painting yet to college. I showed it off and everyone loved it. Or almost everyone. When we came back from lunch break, we found someone had sharpied the words "JIZZ BUTT" all over it. That painting took two weeks to finish. FML
Alexa, play "Paintwork" by The Fall
Today, we had painters in the house. My 4 year-old grandson kept telling me, "Grandpa ate the painter's sandwich." While the painters were running an errand, my husband ate their sandwich, then left to go to work. I was left to explain/apologize to the painters that my husband ate their PB&J. FML
Today, I was talking to an art critic at an exhibition. He told me that the artist had no talent and went on to tell me everything wrong with each painting. I'd painted them all. FML
Today, I proudly gave my grandma a picture I had drawn for her. She didn't seem thrilled with it, and afterwards the rest of my family seemed upset. Nobody could fathom why I drew grandma a picture of a graveyard for her 85th birthday. It was suppose to be a bridge. FML
Today, my roommate asked for my opinion of her new painting. The same painting I hand-painted for over ten hours. She apparently thought it was a gift. She won't give it back. FML

To be fair, Vincent Van Gogh killed himself because he was discouraged, but now he's one of the greatest, don't worry OP keep up the paintings, you'll be famous one day

He's just a bitter old man. Ignore it I'm sure the pairing was good.

How do you know that? How can you bee sure of something youve never seen. I feel for OP too, but the painting may actually be ugly.
Inquizeron 18
I hope you're not a regular painter then

Its more about style and pride tbh. If artist is proud to call it his own then it's a good painting. Case closed.

Unless he likes to eat. Then it's about other people liking your work, or convincing them that ugly garbage is good art.

Well, hopefully if he knew it was your work he'd have been nicer about it. Also, that username.

He should have been nicer about it regardless, it was still OP's choice of artwork in his home.

Honesty is the best policy. I'd rather someone "hurt my feelings" than go forward making mistakes ignorantly

44 I get where you're coming from, and I do agree with your other post that since art is so subjective OP shouldn't be discouraged. My point was more that I hope he isn't always so brutally honest. 52 I do agree that criticism is a good thing, but that abrasive way of going about it does wear thin pretty quickly.

I wouldn't take it personally. Everyone has a different style when it comes to artwork and people have wildly different preferences. Even the greats have been rejected and if you pursue art, no matter how talented you may be, you will too.

Art is always so misunderstood. I wouldn't sweat it, OP! And to answer the question in your username, OP, it's obviously a fruit :)

because it has seeds?

You just aren't appreciated in your own time.
