Today, my "friends" pulled an elaborate prank on me. First, they changed my ringtone to a recording of someone saying "Allahu Akbar" on repeat. Then, they called me as we had a moment of silence in honor of the 9/11 victims. FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, my girlfriend thought it'd be funny to change my ringtone to some guy crooning "Thank heaven for little girls" and then call me during today's teacher-parent conference. FML
Lonely times
Today, the highlight of my day was someone prank-calling me. FML
Today, my phone rang just seconds after I left a conference meeting to go use the restroom. It wouldn't have been a problem, except it seems one of my friends thought it would be funny to change my ringtone to a woman having an orgasm. FML
The Apprentice
Today, I was to have an important phone interview for a job. I got a call and everything went perfectly, and they said I was hired. Later, I found out that one of my "friends" had gotten one of his buddies to prank call me and make sure the line was engaged when the real interviewer called. FML
Messed up
Today, as I returned home, I noticed some movement inside my house. Thinking it was a break-in, I called 911. It was my friends and some coworkers trying to throw me a surprise birthday party. Nobody's said a word to me since. FML
Today, I received a prank phone call that woke me up. I actually kept them on the line because they were the first person to call me in weeks. FML
Today, I attended a funeral. During the minute of silence, my phone went off. My ringtone is "It's good to be alive". FML
Just a prank, bro
Today, while I was sleeping, my girlfriend took my phone and set the ringtone to a bloodcurdling scream. I found this out when I received a call while driving to work and, thinking someone was being murdered in my backseat, I panicked and swerved into a parked car. FML
Today, I was singing horribly in the shower. Without me knowing, my sister recorded my singing and set it as my ringtone. My phone rang in class and everyone heard it. My new nickname is American Idol. FML
Today, it was my birthday. But instead of a decent surprise, my friends decided to smash a cake on my face and unhook my dress, while taking a video of it. In a public shopping mall. FML

Sounds like you need new friends.

That's awful, OP. I hope they get what they deserve.

That's horrible. I mean some people have different senses of humor, which is fine, but on a day like today, it goes a little too far.

YDI for not having your phone on silent during a memorial service.
Naith 14
He might have already done that earlier and his 'friends' changed it for him

Maybe it's just me, but I assumed this moment of silence took place at his school, probably at the beginning or end of the day, since it sounds to me like this kid and his "friends" are high school age, and most schools do a moment of silence sometime during the day on 9/11. So I doubt he could have predicted when this would be, and that his phone would go off during it with that dumb ass ring tone.

If he's at work, or school (uni or high school) his phone should have been silent anyways, so why would it matter if he was in high school?

God, it has been 14 years already... maybe OPs "friends" are about this old, and therefore do not share the same comotion of those who could see and get shocked by the events. We need peace and respect. Among all people, muslims included - be surge to tell your "friends"

15, I agree with your comment but please be a bit more sensitive with your wording. "Allahu Akbar" literally just translates to "God is the greatest" and is an essential part of Muslim prayer, while his friends were incredibly disrespectful to set it as his ringtone I wouldn't go so far as to call it "dumb ass."

81 i doubt 15 ment that the saying Allah Akbar is a dumb ass phrase. He was clearly talking about the ring tone its self. I'd say slow down and think about what was said, but it seems getting offened over some minor thing is a very popular past time these days.

That's not even a prank, that's just incredibly disrespectful to do on September 11th.

It's incredibly disrespectful to do it on any other day. It irks me when people use those words, because it is so annoying and not funny.
rainbowdog 17
54, I hope you meant people who say those words in jest, rather than those who say it in prayer.
EatUrGreens 20
#54 why do you find those words annoying exactly?
IronMan_Mk43 20
So people saying "God is the greatest", an essential part of Muslim prayer, annoys you? #54

That's disrespectful in every way possible. To the religion and the day
justmeee12 14
Yep, exactly. Allah Akbar literally means "God is great" Don't get why people make a mockery out of a whole religion due to a few stray twats. This was downright disrespectful, Especially considering the timing. Op, you need better friends

If any of them are religious set their ring tone to "Highway to Hell" when they're praying at church then call them.
Natep16 7
Yeah because your going to somehow be able to change the ringtone of your friends cell phone from your house while he is at church
IronMan_Mk43 20
#73 I think he meant for WHEN his friend is at church
dezman2000 21
I can't even think of something funny to write here, that's truly a jerk move by your so called friends. My condolences OP.
BlackHawkSavior 28
Probably shouldn't call them friends anymore...
Jord_Fox 14
Much as this is one of the most awful things I've heard recently it is really clever
SnowxSakura 17
That's the thing though, it's not clever. All it did was insult and disrespect the thousands of people that died in the Twin towers, as well as all of the first responders since.
musoboy 22
@29: well actually, it's still clever and engages their creativity. Doesn't mean it's good practice though...
DaRito 25
Yeah, it's pretty clever, just not nice at all.

What about the thousands of innocent lives in the Middle East in the war following?
smallandroid 26
Almost 2 million, in fact.
