Today, my boyfriend still won't talk to me, after I caused him the "worst embarrassment" of his life in front of his friends. What did I do wrong? I joined their conversation and ended up confusing the fictional characters of Gollum and Yoda with one another. FML
Today, my best friend and longtime crush actually said the words, “Why can’t I find a girl like you?” I told him, “I'm a girl like me, am I not enough?” He winced, hemmed and hawed at the answer, then quickly changed the subject. FML
Today, after weeks of my yelling, my boyfriend finally listened and got a hobby. Instead of getting into something sensible like martial arts, he chose tabletop gaming. Now I have to listen to hours of boring stories about pretend fantasy worlds, and admit to everyone that my boyfriend is a nerd. FML
Today, I was telling my friend about how my boyfriend never does anything nice for me. Confused, she replied, "That's odd, he's always doing nice things for me." FML
Today, my dad watched his first Lord of the Rings marathon. Now he keeps spouting lines from the movies, and thought it'd be funny to hide in my closet, just to jump out at me screaming, "My precious!" FML
Today, I was talking with my friend-turned boyfriend and cutely told him that I could no longer remember all the things that he used to do that bothered me. He told me he could remember every one of mine and listed them all off for me. FML
Today, while talking to my girlfriend, the subject of Darth Vader came up. That's when she asked me, "Aren't Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker the same person?" I don't know what's worse, the fact that she asked me that, or the fact that I got upset over her lack of Star Wars knowledge. FML
Today, my new boyfriend came over to my apartment for the first time. Up until now I thought he was great, but when he spotted the book I'm currently reading next to my couch, he uttered the immortal question, "Why do you read?" FML
Today, I sent my boyfriend a long and heartfelt message. He responded with "tl; dr". FML
Today, I had the most intelligent conversation I've ever had with my boyfriend. He was getting really in-depth about subjects like biotechnology and gamma radiation. I soon realized he was only referring to the Incredible Hulk. FML

You should read that, it's not a classic for nothing... It is acceptable to have different interests than your boyfriend, but maybe you could try looking into what he likes, some of my ex-boyfriends showed me some great movies, books and music!

I don't really agree, people often have different interest and while she could definitely watch a movie with her bf of show interest, she doesn't have to. and the way he commented on it was really harsh.

I think you deserve it simply because you haven't read the books and obviously haven't seen the movies. If you boyfriend likes them then why not suck it up for a few hours and either read the darn books or watch the damn movies. Then you can have a lot to talk about. Besides, I don't think he was serious about what he said. He is dating you not the friend right? So take it as constructive criticism and get interested in what your boyfriend likes even if it bores you.

She doesn't HAVE to do anything. She should read the books and watch the movies if it interests HER. If it doesn't, then it's not her fault. It's not being narrow-minded if someone just doesn't want to do something.

I would tell him that it wasn't fair to compare you two though. If its a once off thing, let it go. If it happens again then talk to him. Communication is important if you want a healthy relationship.

Except, I'm one of those geeky somewhat tomboyish girls that's into guy stuff that guys "claim" they want like in this post... but instead they just keep friendzoning me saying I make a better best bud.... So while that was rude of him to say to OP and I feel bad for her, I feel just as bad for the friend

Alright look. If he is interested in lord of the rings chances are he's a world class nerd interested in Star Wars and video games. My advice would be to get into those things too. So you have something to talk about.
