ABORT!!! ABORT!!!
stfuNOWplease 6
Abortion is not legal in all states and some clinics only do them up to 12 weeks. Abortions are also expensive if op's insurance does not cover it. So either way, its going to be a pain in the butt.
gracehi 33
Yes, an abortion will solve EVERYTHING. *eye roll* It's not like OP can make her step daughter have an abortion. Funny. I thought you pro abortion types were all about choice.

Actually abortion is legal in all states thanks to roe vs wade. Just saying.

That's no way to handle the situation. Just raise the new child better than you raised them. Problem kinda solved

That's right abortion is illegal in the U.S. . And so is stem cell research!!! You have the ability, intelligence and tools to repair damaged spinal cords of paralyzed patients by using stem cells from an undeveloped fetus, but... it is illegal..... Controversial? I think so.

Abortion is actually legal up until 20 weeks in a lot of places. I don't personally agree with it but sometimes it's necessary- rape, teenagers, birth defects etc.

Well I posted that before I saw other comments I take that back abortion must be legal now. I thumb down my self

128, Where have you been for the last 39 years?

124, unless the birth defect will kill them when birthed and cause them to suffer as they die, that is sick to abort a baby with birth defects. Just because a baby has Down syndrome does not mean thy should be aborted if that is your inclination...if not then yes I do agree with you, if no I am partially agreeing.

58, I'm pretty sure there's an amendment for that stating no state can make abortion illegal. Some states think its their right to make it hard for people to obtain them.
sierra142 19
260- if its an incompatible with life diagnosis or the baby will have a very poor quality of life where they will suffer greatly I agree with termination. Down's syndrome- I think it's a very personal choice. Personally, I wouldn't necessarily abort but I can't say for sure as I've not had to make that choice.

Oh god, not this shit again.

260, that's honestly YOUR opinion. Not everyone thinks like that. And no not everyone should think like that. To take away a woman's right based on someone's opinion in life is completely unfair.

At least your family is blending well.

I think you and your partner may need to take some responsibility for the quality of your parenting here. Both of them are so young and it takes them 4 months to tell you?

36- If OPs stepdaughter is 14 (and banging her stepbrother), chances are she didn't know she was pregnant. I had to explain to my friend's little sister about how and why she got her period, she was 13.

Sadly, it only takes leaving them alone for a few minutes for kids to do something monumentally stupid, no matter how much they know better. Teenagers also have the disturbing tendency to think that they know how to make better decisions than their elders. No matter how good your parenting skills are, sometimes you just end up with a nitwit that doesn't believe the fire is hot on their parents' word and have to jump in themselves to be sure. That said, I don't know if you're to blame or not, OP, but your kids are definitely all kinds of stupid. There is no part of this situation that's okay.

Strengthening family ties... I bet that was their intention... FYL. If state laws and personal ethics permit, termination of pregnancy is an option.. If it is objectionable then adopt the baby yourself and give away the other two for adoption and throw in a chastity belt for free to the adopting family. Jerry Jerry ..(ding ding ding ding)

At 4 months she's too far along, no doctor would abort it.
neurodoc 1
#123 - not necessarily. Most states follow the "viability based law" which means that if the baby were to be born pre-term what is the earliest age at which that baby would be able to survive on life sustaining equipment and currently available technology is considered the cut off. Because prior to that the fetus is considered not viable independently. When I was in med school this was 21 weeks and 6 days since that was the earliest reported case in medical literature. But I am a neurologist and not an ObGyn... So things might have changed between then and now. Also if I am not mistaken some states have "fetal pain law" which determines the cut off for legal abortion except in cases to save the mother's life at 20 weeks. Either way this is more than 4 months. Yes there is much higher risk than a first trimester abortion and depending on the state you may need two consulting licensed physicians to be on the case. But it is not true that 4 months is too late, as far as I know. The other thing is both parents might need to sign permission as both individuals are minors. Again my knowledge in this is from med school days and may be outdated and it is best if the mother talked to an attorney and an ObGyn about this to get expert advise. I personally do not believe that 4 wks is beyond the point of no return.

I'm sorry, that must really be a terrible feeling. Just remember that all you can do is accept it and hippie that they learn from it. Or an abortion. That's always an option, but remember to keep in mind the emotional damage that any decision you make will have on these children
gracehi 33
I'm fairly certain that the abortion option is up to OP's step daughter, not OP. Also, it's not ALWAYS an option. I can't see OP's location because I'm on the android app, but abortion is illegal after the pregnancy has reached a certain trimester in most places. I don't want to start a pro choice/ pro life debate here, but I just wanted to point that out and also say that an abortion won't solve the core problem, which is that OP's son and step daughter are sexually involved with one another, and that they are sexually involved with one another at such a young age.

I'm sorry, I just have to point out that you said "hippie that they learn from it".. I found it funny, thanks :)

2months. After that the thing is either a boy or a girl. Before then it is just a sack of non-living flesh.

280, Biologists beg to differ.
gracehi 33
Just to clarify, according to the science of biology, a fetus, even at the earliest stages of development, is in fact living. It also possesses a complete set of human DNA, so it is also classified as human in terms of species. Some, however, consider the question of whether or not a fetus is endowed with the rights of personhood a separate matter. Most people who fall into that category, in my experience, refer to brain development as a basis for that matter. I won't state my opinion, because I don't want to start a huge tiring debate on the controversial subject. However, when pro-choice/abortion people claim that a fetus is dead tissue, it betrays their ignorance on the issue.
