Today, I work on a cruise ship, and I just learned that we have a morgue on board. How did I learn that? It's right next to the crew laundry room, and I opened the wrong door. It was occupied. FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Nightmare fuel
Today, at my job as a hotel housekeeper, I accidentally entered the room of someone who hadn't left yet. To my horror, the man inside was having a massive heart attack. I just found out he passed away, despite immediate medical intervention. FML
Invasion of the bodysnatchers
Today, I'm at work as a security guard. At a morgue. Why am I here? FML
Lav agent
Today, I was assigned to empty the lavatory tank on an airplane. I haven't done this since February, when the contents ended up all over me. I thought to myself, "It can't happen again, can it?" I was wrong. FML
Today, at work, I went to fold a pair of pants that was left in a changing room to find out that someone had taken a dump in them. FML
Today, I was at work at the airport. I got called up to a plane's cargo hold, and thought I'd finally learn how to use the loader. Turns out they just needed me to weigh something down, effectively making me ballast. Then my boss told me to get the hell off, after which I hit my head hard climbing out. FML
Ready for the grill!
Today, at work, the chest freezer was accidentally turned off. I work at a vet and the freezer is our morgue. It got opened before anyone realized the contents had thawed. FML
Death at one's elbow
Today, I found out that for the past 6 months I have been sleeping next to a dead body. The cremated body of my landlord's father. It was hidden inside a wardrobe that I was not supposed to use. FML
The love boat
Today, I boarded my very first cruise, in order to relax and unwind for week-long vacation. However, when I got on the ship, I found out that I get seasick REALLY easily. FML
Today, I was dumped by my boyfriend. We're currently sharing a room on a cruise ship. FML
Today, while at work, I went to unlock the washroom for a customer. Normally we don't allow customers to use the staff washrooms, so I was as surprised as the guy I found sitting on the toilet when I opened the door. FML

What kind of cruise ship is this?!

To the people asking why there's a morgue. A cruise is in the middle of the sea. If someone dies suddenly, what are they going to do with the body until they get back to port? It's sensible to have one!

It's probably a much more common than people assume. When you think about it, cruise ships sometimes have more than a thousand people on board for days and days. And old retirees are a huge proportion of cruise ship customers. Got to keep the body somewhere refrigerated until they get back to a port. Passengers dying on-board planes is worse (and that happens too) but in a plane you can't really do much except cover them in a blanket and maybe move the body to another seat until landing.

My dad died mid flight on a plane... We moved him to the back row, and put a blanket over him for the next three hours, till we landed. Worse flight of my life!

Sorry Tuffay, I can't begin to imagine what that must've been like for you x

Where would be a non-idiot place to put the morgue? Typically they are placed next to the kitchen so that all the electrical and gas lines required for the cooling process can be in a central location I stead of all over the damn place.

Generally it directly below the kitchen for this reason... Thus also explaining why the laundry room is next door.

How are people so surprised about this....?

Makes sense that they have one and that it isn't advertised... Who wants to know?

Well... it is logical to have a morgue on a cruise ship. You just have to be prepared for the worst - if some passenger dies. You can not throw him into the sea like the medieval sailors did :-)

There is ALWAYS a morgue on board! Do people think that people only die when they are NOT on vacation. They are required to have one as burial at sea as a common practice died out centuries ago. Duh!

How many people are dying over the course of a cruise that they need to have a morgue?
Czech_Zidane 14
#61 - even if only one in a year, you can not know if it happens on YOUR cruise ship, so you have to have a morgue there.
