Today, I was out shopping with my son and unbeknownst to me, he had secretly added a bunch of expensive games he wanted to the trolley. I was too embarrassed at the till to make a fuss as there was a huge line behind me. I watched as my normal £50 shopping bill climbed to over £400. FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Get on with it!
Today, I went to the supermarket to buy my weekly groceries and only realized after a long queue at the checkout, then having the cashier scan my entire cart, that I'd forgotten my purse. I had to leave everything behind and walk out empty-handed, while everyone in line behind me gave me dirty looks. FML
Today, I went to the supermarket to get some Easter gifts for my kids. At the register, I was verbally abused to the point of tears by the cashier, for having way too many items for the 12 items or less lane. I had 13. FML
Today, my husband called me from the store, trying to decide whether or not to buy the new games console he's been wanting. I'd already purchased one and hid it, ready for Christmas Day. I couldn't talk him into not buying himself one. There goes a $500 surprise. FML
You tried
Today, in an effort to try and be closer to my girlfriend's son, I bought him an expensive Xbox game I know he desperately wanted so we could play it together. He was excited, until he realised that I that paid for it. He snapped the disc and threw the pieces in the bin. At least I tried. FML
Sorry Pat
Today, I went shopping with my two sons and my wife. We got separated after a while, and I spotted my son in the video game section of the store. I snuck up behind him and playfully slapped him on the back of the head. The kid turned around and it wasn't my son. His mom was none to happy. FML
Classic mistake
Today, I realized I'd lost my wallet when paying for groceries. I had to put all the items back and leave the store feeling so embarrassed in front of everyone. FML
Get counting
Today, as my 12-hour shift was about to finish, a young boy came in wanting to buy a $200 gaming device. His mom said he was purchasing it with his own money, which I found admirable. That is, until he took his piggy bank out of his backpack. FML
Today, I was shopping in an upscale store. As I was changing, I heard one of the snobby saleswomen say to mine "You shouldn't bother. She isn't going to buy anything." Determined to "show her", I purchased everything I'd tried on. It came to around $500. My credit card was declined. FML
Respect
Today, I went to the grocery store, but once I'd filled my cart, I realized that I'd forgotten my wallet, and because I'm not the sort of animal who just dumps stuff in random aisles, I had to awkwardly put all my items back on their shelves. FML
Haggling wars
Today, at the grocery store, the scanner at the register gave a higher price for a product than the price tag on the shelf. Apparently I was the one being unreasonable for insisting to pay the price advertised on the shelf, and not some secret price they never told me about. FML

Here's an idea. Put the damn games back and discipline your kid.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but you need to take control of your life before your son ends up the most spoiled, demanding child you've ever met. You taught him a lesson today - "Mom won't cause a scene, so I can get away with whatever I want in a public place".

You don't have to make a fuss. You simply hand the cashier the games and say "I'm sorry, I didn't put these in my cart." I'm guessing you get a little anxious, because that would explain not ending this at the cash register. It's also ok to say "I'm sorry, cancel my order, I have something I need to take care of" and leave with your son. If your son manipulated this situation knowing you would be too anxious to stop him, then take some time to practice dealing with it. Worst case scenario is what, a bunch of strangers think you're a harridan? To heck with them. Most people will be wise enough to understand you're handling something and they're not aware of all the particulars. Many people will be silently applauding or thanking you for dealing with this before the kid is an adult. You don't mention how old the kid is. I am hoping you returned the games and did not allow him to have them. If you did, he should be paying you back.

Since you ended up buying them just make sure he never gets to play them. Let his siblings, friends, cousins whoever play them but only if he doesn't. He'll feel like shit and chances are he won't pull that again.

Take it back. I don't know about your country but in mine you have 15 days to return any item you purchased, except food. And ground his ass because money doesn't grow on trees; if he wants 350£ worth of games he can go earn those 350£.

Return them! Preferably while dragging him along. You can still salvage this! Unless they don't take returns... For your sake I hope they do.

I have worked the till at a few different stores during my lifetime. You can generally tell the employee at the register that you have decided against buying something because it happens all the time and most (if not all) stores are prepare to deal with it. There's no need for a big song and dance. The only time it is frustrating for the store employees is when the item in question is a perishable good. Then the employees have no way of knowing how long the item was removed from it's temperature controlled space and they need to determine if the item is still safe to sell. That can be annoying. But video games? The employee would have just shoved them under his or her till and put them back on the shelf when he or she had the chance (or called someone from the appropriate department to do it). Embarassed or not, there was no good reason to actually buy the games.

Honestly I don't believe OP has a right to be upset AFTERWARDS. She should have just calmly handed ALL the games to the cashier & stated simply "I am not buying these, my kid needs to learn he can't just have what he wants when he wants"...purchase what IS necessary & deal with her kid after she gets home.

resell them or make him pay for each and every one

you have to be a lot firmer than that if you're going to raise your son. you're a parent, not a doormat

Make him pay you back. The full £350

So you paid a shit ton of money for games that your son disobediently snuck into the cart, so you wouldn't cause a scene in public? I don't think you're ready to be a parent
