Today, I was out shopping with my son and unbeknownst to me, he had secretly added a bunch of expensive games he wanted to the trolley. I was too embarrassed at the till to make a fuss as there was a huge line behind me. I watched as my normal £50 shopping bill climbed to over £400. FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Get on with it!
Today, I went to the supermarket to buy my weekly groceries and only realized after a long queue at the checkout, then having the cashier scan my entire cart, that I'd forgotten my purse. I had to leave everything behind and walk out empty-handed, while everyone in line behind me gave me dirty looks. FML
Today, I went to the supermarket to get some Easter gifts for my kids. At the register, I was verbally abused to the point of tears by the cashier, for having way too many items for the 12 items or less lane. I had 13. FML
Today, my husband called me from the store, trying to decide whether or not to buy the new games console he's been wanting. I'd already purchased one and hid it, ready for Christmas Day. I couldn't talk him into not buying himself one. There goes a $500 surprise. FML
You tried
Today, in an effort to try and be closer to my girlfriend's son, I bought him an expensive Xbox game I know he desperately wanted so we could play it together. He was excited, until he realised that I that paid for it. He snapped the disc and threw the pieces in the bin. At least I tried. FML
Sorry Pat
Today, I went shopping with my two sons and my wife. We got separated after a while, and I spotted my son in the video game section of the store. I snuck up behind him and playfully slapped him on the back of the head. The kid turned around and it wasn't my son. His mom was none to happy. FML
Classic mistake
Today, I realized I'd lost my wallet when paying for groceries. I had to put all the items back and leave the store feeling so embarrassed in front of everyone. FML
Get counting
Today, as my 12-hour shift was about to finish, a young boy came in wanting to buy a $200 gaming device. His mom said he was purchasing it with his own money, which I found admirable. That is, until he took his piggy bank out of his backpack. FML
Today, I was shopping in an upscale store. As I was changing, I heard one of the snobby saleswomen say to mine "You shouldn't bother. She isn't going to buy anything." Determined to "show her", I purchased everything I'd tried on. It came to around $500. My credit card was declined. FML
Respect
Today, I went to the grocery store, but once I'd filled my cart, I realized that I'd forgotten my wallet, and because I'm not the sort of animal who just dumps stuff in random aisles, I had to awkwardly put all my items back on their shelves. FML
Haggling wars
Today, at the grocery store, the scanner at the register gave a higher price for a product than the price tag on the shelf. Apparently I was the one being unreasonable for insisting to pay the price advertised on the shelf, and not some secret price they never told me about. FML

Here's an idea. Put the damn games back and discipline your kid.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but you need to take control of your life before your son ends up the most spoiled, demanding child you've ever met. You taught him a lesson today - "Mom won't cause a scene, so I can get away with whatever I want in a public place".

You should smash the games in front of him

You're gonna raise one hell of a spoiled brat. I would've grounded the hell out of my kid and taken all their games away from them until they learned to respect me.

Take the games home and hide them, that way the kid knows that sort of behaviour will not be tolerated. Or just return them?

Is there a return policy? Forbid him to play the games you bought.

I don't understand how this problem was embarrassing to you. The fact that you allowed this to happen is more embarrassing than doing nothing about it.

you're such a pathetic excuse for a parent if i ever tried that on my parents as a kid i would've gotten back handed right there you just spent $350 just cuz you're afraid of what people will think of you disciplining your child? news flash you're a parent that's your job YDI 100%

I hope you went right to the customer service line and returned them all. That kid sounds like a nightmare in the making if you don't discipline him.

You have a receipt right? Just return them on your next visit. Problem solved. And I hope you grounded his lying butt.

I can understand why, for multiple reasons, you wouldn't have wanted to make a scene or deal with it with a long line there. I don't think it lessens you as a parent if either immediately after or the next day you returned those games and then explained to him what the consequences would be the next time he did that.

Consequences mean nothing to a child unless it's immediate. There's no incentive to behave if the warning is "next time there will be consequences". They've already learned that the parent won't stand up for themselves, they know they can get away with it.

And if you read my comment, you'll see the word immediately. Even if she does take it back the next day, like I brought up as a possibility, he won't have had a chance to open or play the games and she should have lectured him in the car so that's still "immediately".

Getting to the car and then deciding that it's not OK has still shown that you can be manipulated into spending hundreds of pounds; the point isn't to prevent him from playing the games or even getting the money back, it's to show him that trying to manipulate his parent into buying him a couple hundred quids worth of games is completely unacceptable. The minute she decided that she didn't want to "cause a scene", she cemented her son's idea that she can be manipulated and he will try it again. Lecturing him in the car is completely ineffective and, quite frankly, lazy.

Who cares if you would have held up the line? all you had to do was tell the cashier that he snuck stuff in your cart. all you did was teach your child that he can do it again and get away with it.
