Today, I was offered a job. It only took me a year and 17 interviews to get an offer, and I have a PhD. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
I could be happy
Today, I got my first job offer in over a year, a mere few days after being accepted to study for my dream career. My crippling depression won't allow me to enjoy any of it. FML
Today, while waiting for an interview at the career that I've been spending months tailoring my résumé for, I was thrown up on by my only competitor. Guess who got the job. FML
The pyramids
Today, I got my first interview offer in months for a job I desperately need. It turned out to be an MLM. FML
Today, I got my first job after having spent months looking, and graduating college in the meantime. I got it based on my pre-college qualifications. FML
Classic
Today, I got a call and was offered a position with a company that I really wanted to work for. I just had to wait a week to confirm that everything was good to go. Ten seconds after ending the call, they called back and said that they'd called the wrong person. The offer was for someone else. FML
Today, after months of searching, I was offered a job. After hearing how excited I was on the phone, HR docked the initial salary offer by 40% in the written contract. She said it was non-negotiable. Guess I'm back to job hunting. FML
Lost references
Today, after three interviews, I accepted an offer for my dream job and submitted my notice. The company called me to say they couldn't contact my referees and have now withdrawn the offer. I'm now officially unemployed. FML
No dice
Today, I interviewed with a company 5 times over the course of 7 weeks. It was going really well and although not my dream job, it would provide a step up for my family. I got the offer letter at 1 PM! As I’m reading it, I realize it’s actually addressed to the other finalist. Sent to me, not for me. Offer rescinded. FML
Contracted
Today, I finally got an offer for a salaried position with the company I've been working for as a contractor for the past two years. They offered less than what I make now, but hey, benefits! FML
Today, I found out that after interviewing for two jobs at great companies, I was neck and neck with one other person for each position. They both offered the job to the other person. FML

Well shit, I only have a Bachelor's. Looks like about four years and 302 interviews for me, assuming I can even get an interview.

even with credentials it's hard to find a job. makes me wonder the validity of how much and education is really worth!

okay guys the thing about university and getting high ranks is that you usually get no experience from learning from books. employers would want someone who has work experience in the field

#6 - Yeah, thought so when I read the comment. That's why I'm not going into a Masters program even. @_@ It feels weird to be overqualified.

Yeah, my dad has a PhD, plus many additional certificates and other levels of degrees, and exceptional grades throughout his elementary/high school/college years, and it's still hard for him to find work because we moved to Canada from Asia. Even though he got his PhD from England and studied for some time in Hawaii. It's hard, even for very qualified people.

just because you have a PhD, doesn't mean you'll get a job. Employers do look for more then JUST a degree, you know. Employers are also looking for experience. If you have a degree, but no experience, you can't be expected to be hired. It's just the way it goes.

I agree with 18. just coz you have a phd does not mean you're a walk-in. maybe it's your arrogance and unrealistic expectations that lost you potential jobs

just 'cuz you have a PhD that doesn't mean you would automatically get a job. good luck though!
