Today, I found out that after interviewing for two jobs at great companies, I was neck and neck with one other person for each position. They both offered the job to the other person. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, while waiting for an interview at the career that I've been spending months tailoring my résumé for, I was thrown up on by my only competitor. Guess who got the job. FML
Classic
Today, I got a call and was offered a position with a company that I really wanted to work for. I just had to wait a week to confirm that everything was good to go. Ten seconds after ending the call, they called back and said that they'd called the wrong person. The offer was for someone else. FML
Nepotism rules
Today, I got notice that I didn't get the new position I applied for at work. After two interviews, pay negotiation and paperwork, as well as years of giving this place all my time, I found out my boss gave it to his friend's daughter, who has no experience or credentials needed for the position. FML
Close, but no cigar
Today, after months of tests, I was the only candidate left for my dream job. Then, only a few days before the last meeting before signing the contract, I get a call from HR informing me their co-worker unexpectedly came back from unpaid leave and that they are obliged to give him the job. FML
High hopes
Today, it's exactly two weeks after the second interview I had for my dream job that I felt went really well. They sent an e-mail back to me telling me that the team was really impressed with me, and that I was one of the best candidates they'd ever had. So of course they selected another candidate for the role instead. FML
No dice
Today, I interviewed with a company 5 times over the course of 7 weeks. It was going really well and although not my dream job, it would provide a step up for my family. I got the offer letter at 1 PM! As I’m reading it, I realize it’s actually addressed to the other finalist. Sent to me, not for me. Offer rescinded. FML
Backstabbers
Today, after I applied for an IT position at work, and a coworker I’ve worked with for 3 years, who said she had no intention on applying, wished me luck and told me, "I hope you get it!" it's now a week later and it turns out she applied the next day, got the offer and accepted. I had to find out a week later from a different coworker. FML
Canceled
Today, I got a call from the only company that asked me to come in for an interview of the many applications I submitted. I answered it even though I was at my current job. My boss heard and chewed me out. The call was to cancel the interview since the position was filled. FML
Logic
Today, I received a call telling me I had not gotten a job I would have been a perfect fit for. The hiring manager told me they "went in the opposite direction" and chose to hire someone with less experience, so they didn't have to pay them as much. She made sure to tell me I was still the better candidate though. FML
Today, after interviewing for a promotion to a position that was created with me in mind, I eagerly accepted a call from my boss, expecting good news. Turns out, they found a better applicant, who they don't believe will need support from the position I currently hold, so it's being eliminated. FML

Hopefully whichever position they don't take will then be offered to you, as the obvious second choice.

That really sucks OP. You should go back there and ask if you did anything wrong.

Seems like you're doing well so far. Keep at it OP, things will work out!

Uhh, it wasn't the same person applying for both jobs.

It is phrased kind of ambiguously.

If it was the same person then OP should be happy. Finding a good job is temporary. But finding an arch-enemy is for life.

I think he may mean that at each position, there was another different person who got the job, so no jobs left :(

i thought the same thing as #5 at first, and was wondering why it was an FML since it seemed like an easy fix. Thanks for the clarification.

Maybe you can contact the companies and ask them if your competitor rejected their offer (in a professional way), if they would consider you for the offer. And if they do accept you, I know it would suck thinking you are a second choice but once you get working you can do your best and show them what they would have missed out on!

That truly sucks, OP. But if you were neck and neck with the other guy, the job he doesn't choose, you should at least have the other job option...

you misunderstood. 2 different interviews. 2 different people filled the jobs. op was passed up on both

I hate to tell you, but you were probably not neck and neck with another person. HR typically says that to everyone just to make you feel better in case it doesn't work with the other applicants.

Isn't it possible that someone was more qualified then you that was interviewing for those jobs. If this is your First time trying to get a job then you need to understand that sometime your going to have to go on many job interviews before you get a job. Good luck with the job search and don't be afraid to ask why they didn't hire you.
