Today, I was at work when a cute guy came up to me and said he liked my shirt. In a desperate attempt to say something back, I said, "Thanks, I like your shoelaces." FML

When someone compliments you, all that's required is a genuine "thank you". There's no need to desperately try to find something else to say.

Just accept the compliment and start a conversation. For instance, "thanks! So, how's it going?"
