Today, I was at work in a lab. I spent all day growing a large bacterial culture. I went to retrieve it, only to find that someone had turned the incubation shaker up too high, and my flask had flown off and shattered. Not only did I lose all my work, but now the whole room is a biohazard. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Both sides now
Today, at the microbiology lab, I discovered that the guy who took the shift before me didn't sterilize the work space very well. I am now blowing chunks from both ends from a very nasty strain of E. Coli. My company blames me. FML
Late fee
Today, I woke up earlier to food prep for lunch later. Just as I was preparing the ingredients, I dropped a thick glass saucer on the kitchen counter and it shattered like a hail storm - everywhere in the kitchen. I ended up spending more time cleaning it out and obviously logged in to work later than usual. FML
Triple Dog Dare
Today, I was teaching my microbiology lab class as a graduate TA. Some dumbass frat boy dared his friend to drink a tube of E. coli and the idiot did it. Now everything in the lab is contaminated with vomit. FML
Today, I was at work, nonchalantly spinning my keys around my finger when they flew off and hit a glass cabinet. Broken glass showered passing customers. I don't think I'll have a job to go to tomorrow. FML
Today, I was making a shake at work when the cup fell off the blender. I went to catch it, and instead caught the teeth of the still-spinning mixer. When my hand was still bleeding five minutes later, my supervisor told me to clock out until it stopped. I lost money for getting hurt on the job. FML
Cool moves
Today, I tried to open my water bottle, which is like trying to open a pickle jar, and after several seconds, it exploded all over my desk and clothes. Then, when I was going to get paper towels and a change of clothes, I slipped on the puddle and hit my head on my desk as I came crashing down. FML
Blasted
Today, I started to make a protein shake to have a healthy breakfast. It exploded. Turns out, my mom lost the rubber gasket and put the blender back, so it looked ready to use. By the time I cleaned it all up, it was time for me to leave for work. I'm now eating chips from the vending machine. FML
First day
Today, I started a new job and wanted to seem organized, so I brought a homemade lunch in a container. I went to heat it up, but forgot to remove the lid completely. The container exploded in the microwave, covering the inside with sauce. I spent my lunch break cleaning it while my coworkers smirked. FML
BURNED
Today, I reheated leftover pasta at work. I forgot to crack a vent on the container and it exploded in the microwave. Sauce coated the inside, so I spent my lunch break scrubbing while coworkers waited awkwardly to heat their food. The smell is still hanging in the office air. FML
Today, I found out how acidic some of the chemicals I work with are. After a chemical shower, minor burns, and having to throw away my clothes due to a biohazard, I had the pleasure of running across the parking lot to my car, wearing only a lab coat around my waist. FML

Oh wow, that really sucks. FYL. :/ This happened to my dad once, but it was for something else, and not with bacteria.

It does? Sorry, but I didn't understand this one at all. :/

OP - I call Shenanigans! I work in a microbiology lab, if you were working with anything that was above a category two organism then this wouldn't be possible as there would be far too many precautions in place. You say Biohazard, I say Bullshit. Break out the disinfectant and stop whining.

idk man...but even ecoli can be pretty dangerous and I use those very very often in my lab.
Microbiologist 0
Well not really - unless we are talking about O157, upon which it should be treated as a cat 3 org due to it's crazy low infectious dose.
Gingerly 0
Um, Maybe he was talking about a school lab, you spill any type of infectious organism in a school lab and it's considered a biohazard because they don't want students to get sick, even if its something pretty harmless.

HELLO... NERD ALERT jk smart people will always decide what the dumb people get

:( That sucks. I'd complain about the person who turned it up if you had notified others of what you were doing in there...

They might not know who :/

Shit. it's going to be this ******* losers fault that we all get eaten in the zombie apocalypse. thanks.

That sucks. >_> You should complain. I don't know why people are saying you deserve it. They're probably saying that because you just left it there, but it'd be stupid if you took it around with you, so no idea why people are clicking that...

What are you talking about they just left it in there. She left the bacteria in the incubator to keep it at the best temperature so it would grow faster. People are probably picking YDI b/c she didn't check the settings before turning the shaker on.
blalien 0
Maybe multiple people use the incubator, and one person turned it up before putting in his sample. If not, then yeah, YDI for not checking the settings.

It's the shaker, not the actual temperature of the incubators. The thing that swirls the flasks around while they're incubating. FYL, dude. That sucks.

Considering this is the occupation I'm planning to into, this is a good experience to learn from for me, but that still really sucks.

You might want to learn grammar before science.
divineinstrument 2
Lol it was more a proof-reading error than a grammar issue to. If #5 had written "I'm planning to GO into" instead of "I'm planning to into", that would have corrected the whole thing

thats kinda bad if youre learning from a fml
TreeHustler 0
FML or not, this is an experience. FML's are experiences, if you want to be a dumbass and learn from your own mistakes instead of others, that's your choice.

No wonder why they call it Biohazard in Japan!
firefaery 0
That's pretty much the exact thought process I had, lol. But, most likely, such a thing could be cured by antibacterials. That's why it's a virus in the movie. They're harder to control and cure. Especially when it turns it's victims into the living dead with voracious and cannibalistic eating habits.

you don't deserve it, but worse things could happen when working with bacteria in the lab.

Hey I didn't know there were smart people in Mass!

lol when i first read that i thot u meant mass as in catholic church..

You do realize that Massachusetts is home to MIT and Harvard, right?
saze_fml 0
Sorry darling, but YDI. The shaker would have to be set pretty bloody high for this to happen and you should know to start off low and turn it up gradually, at least I hope you do NOW lol! Still sucks though
cheer_leader247 0
im pretty sure OP wasnt the one who turned it up so how does she deserve it?
dolphingirl 0
um, you don't turn it up gradually, every shaker I've used slows itself down when opening and gradually speeds itself up. Most of the shakers i've used were pretty ancient and it was always impossible to get the flasks to sit in just right, so i'd seriously beat the shit out of whatever idiot turned it up that high.

hey moron he said someone else turned it up not him
