Today, I was at a diner with friends when we decided to put our phones in the middle of the table on the basis that whoever looks at theirs first has to pay. It was going well, until someone rushed up behind me, slammed my face into the table and ran out with our 4 phones. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
You had one job!
Today, my friends and I went out to dinner. Being short on cash, I suggested a game where we put our phones in the center of the table and first to check their phone had to pay the bill. Our conversation died out, and fearful of having an awkward silence, I checked my phone. FML
Today, I did a "dine and dash" and left my phone in the restaurant. The owner answered my phone call. FML
Child labor
Today, I was dining out with friends. I saw a mom instructing her young child to go to empty tables and take whatever cash had been left. I discreetly told the manager. He confronted the woman and pointed right at me. As she was being thrown out, she tossed a very heavy mug at my head. It hit me. FML
Dine and dash
Today, some friends and I went to IHOP. We joked about not having enough money, and as it turns out we were $5 short. We put down what we had and left. Upon getting to the car, I realized I'd forgotten my phone, and had to go back. I made eye contact with our waitress, our money in her hand. FML
Forbidden
Today, I went to dinner to meet my boyfriend's parents for the first time. I received a text message, so I pulled out my phone to check. Apparently, his parents have a "No phones at the table rule" and took my phone away until I could learn "proper table manners." FML
First step
Today, I went out with a friend to grab some food and we were served by this really cute and fun waiter. Stepping out of my comfort zone and deciding to do something crazy, I left my phone number on the bill. I got home only to realize that I forgot to pay the bill. FML
Today, to keep my phone safe while I went on some rides, I took it out of my pocket so I could put it in my bag. Just as I pulled it out, a woman ran into me, knocking my phone to the ground and breaking the screen. FML
I mean, come on…
Today, I went to see a movie but took my phone out a few times to check my socials. Apparently the asshole behind me didn’t like that, because he ripped my phone out of my hands, dropped it in my soda, then just sat back in his seat like nothing happened. FML
Karma karma karma karma chameleon, you come and go.
Today, I forgot my phone in a restaurant bathroom because I was too distracted trying to steal three rolls of toilet paper without anyone noticing. After sinking that low because I was too broke to buy my own toilet roll, I'm now also in the market for a new phone. FML
Today, I was at work, when I got bored and started spinning around in my chair for a little fun. As I was spinning, I went to grab my phone. I missed and sent my phone flying, hitting my coworker in the face. My boss witnessed the whole thing. FML

Why didn't the other people do anything? Surely four others had time to react?

Did you get hurt? why would someone do something like that?! I wish I was there to see the look of utter shock on you and your friends faces!!!

If it happened to me, I would probably be too shocked to react quickly enough...

Just fyi, three others, but point taken. Also surprised no one else at the diner did anything.

Most likely they were surprised it actually happened, but still chase the ****** down!

It's a fun game. Usually in the end people split the cost if no one looks.

Your friends made the right decision. Free food is better than phones. Always.

If you were in a restaurant I'm sure there are dozens of people that could have stopped him if you yelled for help or something.

It's a diner... If it is a smaller, lesser-known place, it's a helluva lot less likely to have security cameras. Everyone would likely be taken aback by the event anyway

You've obviously never heard of the bystander effect. Maybe they would have helped, but that's not a given.

Slow reflexes?

if someone slams your face into a table from behind and promptly steals your stuff and runs off, you'll probably be too dazed to react effectively.

So OP has an excuse, but what about the others? Although, if it was a booth, there might have only been one other.

Hopefully one of you had/has the "find my phone" app. You can log on from the computer and try and pin point the location. Good luck

Well, I guess they have to pay the bill then, huh?

awkwardloveannie 28

Why was there no actions taken? By anyone, friends, bystanders, even you.... (Well that depends on how hard you were hit but yea).
iknowiwantyou 13
never heard of the bystander effect? if there's more than a couple bystanders present none of them will do anything.

All the baffled commentators: You are aware that one of the fastest rising crimes these days is "grab a phone from someone's hand and run," right? Our subway system has signs warning people about it. It's apparently a lot harder to thwart than you think it is, or it wouldn't be a popular crime.
swimgood 16
Agreed. I had this happen to me while visiting a friend in New York.
