Today, I walked into my boss's office to ask for a raise, and walked out unemployed. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Healthy work environment
Today, I summoned the courage to go into my boss’s office and ask for a raise. He yelled at me, called me “ungrateful”, asked how dare I ask him such a question, and that I’m lucky to even have a job in the first place. I ended up reduced to tears. FML
Today, my boss got a promotion and I got laid off. FML
Today, I worked up the nerve to ask my boss for a raise. Today is also the day I found out my boss has a shitlist of employees he wants to fire, and that I'm now on it. FML
I deserve a raise and fall
Today, I finally mustered the courage to ask my boss for a raise. I confidently walked into his office, ready to present my case, only to trip over the edge of a rug and fall onto his desk, scattering papers and stuff everywhere. FML
Today, I met with my boss hoping to hear about a possible raise that had been promised many months ago. He then told me that the only way I would get a raise was if I found a better paying job and took it, and that the company was in no position to offer anyone a raise. FML
Today, my boss found out I had applied for a much better paying job. He told me I'd do a better job and make more money there. Then he fired me. FML
Today, I went to ask my boss for a raise. He laughed at me and said, "That's hilarious because I was going to ask you if you could take a pay cut!" FML
Today, at the job I've had for eight years, I finally got the raise I was supposed to get a year ago. One hour later I found out the store was closing and we were all out of a job in two weeks. FML
Today, I asked my boss for a raise, explaining that another shop offered me a job at a higher rate, but I would stay if he would offer me the same. Instead, he fired me then called the other shop and said I was fired for failing a drug test. FML
Today, I was in a bad mood after being stuck in traffic for 2 hours and late for work. I was walking to my building when I saw a 100 dollar note flying my way. A man called after me for it, but being selfish I took the note in my pocket as a little reward. That man was my boss. Yes, I'm fired. FML

Well if you felt you weren't getting paid what you deserved, then this might have been a good thing. Just gotta find a new job and work even harder at it :D

Were you fired for asking or was he gonna fire you anyway? Anyway, I wish you good luck in finding a respectable job that'll pay you well!

I don't understand why everyone seems to blame the boss, OP could be a bad worker too, who knows
RadikulRam 16
Plus the OP could have been very rude about it too.

Yeah we fired a girl at my work recently because she was rude as hell and terrible at her job. She accused my boss of firing her because he was "afraid she was going to take his job"

You should never have to ask for a raise. Ideally, if they notice your hard work AND the company can afford it, they will give you a raise. If they fired OP, the most likely explanation is OP wasn't a good employee. Or, there is also the possibility they could just be assholes in which case OP is better off.

Never having to ask for a raise is great, in theory... But you greatly misunderstand the majority of the corporate world.

Don't feel too bad OP, I went in to ask for a raise at my old job and the very next day, I got fired because the company didn't have enough work for all the employees. In reality the boss was a cokehead and the company was imploding. Now I have a great job making much more than I could have asked for there. Good luck OP.

Maybe you should be happy with what you have

Exactly what I was wondering. Like how the hell did OP manage that? I would love a follow up to tell us how these events unfolded.

OP could've said "give me a raise or else" for all we know.

Have you been working there for a long time? If you have and you were working hard, then it's the company's loss for firing you. Good luck on finding a new job and keep working hard!

Hey OP that's really shitty and I hope the job search treats you well :/ Good luck and I'm sorry your boss did that. FYL

If he wasn't willing to give you a raise hopefully you can find a job that pays better and is a better job than the one you had before. :-)

Maybe its a sign!! Stay hopeful OP.

Perhaps this is a sign that you'll get a better job in the near future? Screw your old boss, you will find a better one. Good luck OP.

Wow your boss is a **** and probably licks ****.

Boss licks himself. Boss is a cat. Plot twist indeed.
mountainmanmike 11
Double plot twist, the cat is really a broom. O.o
