Today, I walked at my graduation ceremony, proudly wearing my valedictorian cords. It turns out that, after some confusion on behalf of the student services office, I was neither valedictorian nor salutatorian (by 0.2 points). I'm dating the actual valedictorian. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Close but no cigar
Today, I learned that in spite of walking during the ceremony, my graduation was denied. That was nearly 4 years ago, and I never knew this was a possibility. I'd been a drop-out all this time. FML
Congratulations!
Today, I went to an Honors Convocation for my school. I received a letter a few weeks earlier telling me I received an award. Surprised and proud, I invited my family to join me to see what award I was receiving. I couldn't find my name in the program. I was invited by mistake. FML
Today, I tripped in front of my graduation class of 225 and all of their relatives while receiving my diploma. FML
I'd like to thank…
Today, we were having a school prize giving. I heard my name called and I walked up to the stage waving and smiling, feeling rather proud of myself. I stood by the microphone and started my acceptance speech, only to be tapped on the shoulder by the girl they'd actually called up. FML
Today, my university is capable of sending me two diplomas in short succession due to a clerical error, but can't recognize that I've graduated and won't be taking classes with them in the fall. FML
Today, I had my college graduation ceremony. As I was walking across the stage, some asshat, in front of over 55,000 students and staff, brazenly ran across the stage, snatched my diploma up out of the president's hand, and ran off. FML
Today, at the awards ceremony at my school, I ended up winning the top achievement award in my grade. The principal spent at least ten minutes talking about my success to the audience, the whole time referring to me as a "he" as I stood right next to him. I'm a girl. FML
Today, I went to our school golf banquet, after being with the team and practicing every day for a few months with them. When it came time to get the certificates, all the names were called out. Except for mine. When I asked the coach where my certificate was, he said "Who are you?". FML
The Graduate
Today, I graduated with my Bachelor's degree. The excitement didn't last too long because I broke my elbow by tripping over a stick at my graduation dinner. Definitely not intoxicated, just clumsy. FML
Today, I found out that the girl I tutored in high school in basic ENGLISH just received her PhD in Biophysics. I am now the manager of a McDonald's. I was also the Valedictorian of our graduating class. FML

Actually, everyone thinks you're the valedictorian and that's really what is important. Your SO will be given the award rightly via email or in some dank office, but you got the glory when it counted!

Then give them congratulations and revel in being third smartest! Sorry to hear that OP, but you can at least feel happy for your partner!

The valedictorian is the student in the graduating class that has the highest academic achievement while the salutatorian is the one with the second highest academic achievement. They get to deliver the speeches at the graduation. The cords get worn around the neck on the gown I think.

When you go through a graduation ceremony, there are various accessories to the regalia that signify certain achievements or affiliations. There are cords, stoles, sashes, tassels, chevrons, hoods, etc that you'll need to decode.

Valedictorian is the graduate with the highest grade point average

It's the tassels on the graduation cap. Different colors represent different things. (Valedictorian, various Honor Society memberships, etc.)

All anyone will remember is that you were the Valedictorian. Tell your steady, "If there's no pics, it didn't happen."

Although that sucks, you're still in the very top 10 percent of your class. i wouldn't quite say that's an fml.

So you are one of the smartest people in your class and dating the smartest person in your class? That sounds like you are on the right track and you should be happy for all of that.

This is not an FML. It is a display of insecurity and the need to find an audience to brag to.
