Today, I spent my day alone while my parents and siblings were at school and work. Trying to be helpful, I cleaned out the fridge, did 5 loads of laundry, worked outside, fed the pets, and made dinner for the entire family. The evening was spent hearing complaints about how wrong I did everything. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Can't win, part 15
Today, while my parents were grocery shopping, I cleaned the kitchen, swept floors, did laundry, and cleaned bathrooms, only to finish right before they got home. After dinner, my dad bitched and complained that I didn't take out the trash and he had no room to throw away his paper plate. FML
Help out or get out
Today, I had an very long day at work. I also had to take my daughter to the dentist and ballet class. Later, my 3 year-old son was having a diarrhoea, needing care, yet I pulled myself up, cooked, fed, read, cleaned the whole house except the kids' bedroom. My brother-in-law came, looked only at that and judged me horribly. FML
Can't win
Today, I made breakfast for the family. Perfect. Did all the Laundry. Great. Drove the one and a half hour round trip to take my stepdaughter to work. Blah. Finished off by doing some housework and cooking dinner. The dinner wasn't perfect, and my wife told me that for all the good I do, I ruin everything. FML
Quality family time
Today, after a long talk with the kids, I finally got all the chores around the house done early so we could have a fun family weekend. My wife decided to be a wet blanket and insisted we needed to deep clean the already clean kitchen. Three arguments later, everyone is sulking, and I'm working in the kitchen alone. FML
So unfair
Today, my mom asked my siblings and me for help cleaning the kitchen. After working for a half hour while all my siblings sat on the couch, I pointed out that I was the only one working. My mom thanked my siblings for not having attitudes like mine and sent me to my room. FML
Never enough
Today, I spent all day doing chores around the house, including mowing and raking the lawn, paying bills, going to the store, meal prepping, and cleaning the fridge. When I sat down to enjoy some well-earned games, my girlfriend sighed and asked if I ever planned to contribute anything to our relationship. FML
Never enough
Today, after weeks of my girlfriend complaining that I don't help with the chores, I secretly took a day off work to deal with some that were piling up. When she got home, all she could do was complain about how I hadn't done more. FML
Today, my parents came home after being out of town for the weekend. I stayed home, did homework and completely cleaned the house, thinking I could earn some brownie points with them. They saw how clean the house was and accused me of covering up a party. FML
Clean freak
Today, at home, I always do my share of the chores. I just got back from a business trip and it turns out that I actually do ALL the chores. My wife was alone for 9 days, the kitchen was a in state, dirty laundry everywhere, cat litter box overflowing onto the floor, and the bathroom was fucking disgusting. FML
One happy family
Today, I spent hours cooking an amazing dinner for my family, who had just gotten home from a trip, so we could spend some time together because I'd started to miss everyone. When they got home, they saw it all laid out and just took plates to their room, without even telling me they were home. FML

Lovely. Of course, if you had done nothing all day, they would have complained about that too. Should have told them to do it themselves then.

They did you a favor. Now you never have to do any of that for any of them again.

Sounds like my house.

Sounds like my house too. If I move the milk carton to the other side of the fridge shelf I get chastised. If I vaccuum the kitchen my mother will "tidy up" after me. I'm terrified of going near the laundry or washing the floors. And I'm actually really neat, not a half-assed slob or anything close.

So, you hosed down the fridge without taking anything out first, you made every piece of clothing pink and shrunk it to doll size, you fed the Christmas ham to the dogs, and served your family Kibbles & Bits, and you want praise for that?

OP, please, just stop. If you didn't do it right, than it's your fault. You sound like my little brother. "Oh! I tried to do it, so you wouldn't have to, Mom!" And all he ended up doing was wipe down a table and then ran to his room to play PlayStation. If your family is just griping because you didn't do it "their" way, just ignore them and walk away. Keep helping out, because, honestly, if you live there, you are contributing to the mess, and you need to take some damned responsibility. Even if you're just visiting for the holidays, it is your parents' house and you are not a guest. So get off the computer and go clean the dishes...

So many things are wrong with what you said. The OP was legitamately trying to help. How do I know? Because ***SHE*** came here and wrote that they told her she did it wrong. It would ONLY bother HER if she spent a legitamate amount of time TRYING to help. Even if she half-assed some of the jobs, it is still mildly beneficial to the family, but she still happened to not do them the way they wanted. FYL OP for not doing it how they liked it, but unlike this completely one dimensional _____, I think it was very nice of you to spend all day helping out your family REGARDLESS of whether you live there or are visiting. You DID "get off the computer" and help out, and taking 3 minutes to post this to FML doesn't even mean you were on the computer for a big length of time. This guys ridiculous...
