Today, I showed my father a nice sweatshirt online, hoping he would take the hint and get it for me. He did, three sizes larger than mine, for himself. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my dad came to my graduate art show wearing a t-shirt saying "My other daughter is a science major". He'd had it specially made. FML
Today, my Dad came home with a $500 jacket that he'd bought himself for Christmas. I'd bought him the same one, and it's non refundable. FML
You shouldn't have
Today, my boyfriend gave me a surprise gift. I was so excited until I opened it. It was the same exact sweater I bought for him last month, but in my size. He said, “I knew you liked it, so I got one for you too!” He didn’t remember that I already own one. FML
Today, my dad found the Father's Day present that I spent at least ten hours preparing and decorating. I'd expected him to be extremely happy about this lovely gift. His only reaction was to ask if he could exchange it for something else. FML
Today, while sorting through my clothes, I found one of my ex's old sweaters. After a lot of thought and difficulty, I threw it out. I felt empowered, until my father later rifled through my trash and claimed the sweater for himself. FML
Today, I wore my boyfriend's favorite shirt to surprise him and show him how sexy I look. He made me take it off and pay the bill for dry cleaner. FML
For me?
Today, my boyfriend gave me a very thoughtful gift: A pair of woolen socks, hand-knitted by his mom. They were a size 43. Yes, that’s his size. I wear a 36. FML
Shameless
Today, I was asked, "What do you want for Christmas?" so I sent a link to a personalized "Mama" sweatshirt with my kids' names on it. My mother-in-law is now wearing the sweater I sent, with "Grandma" on it with her grand-kids' names. The same personalized one I'd sent. FML
Today, I went to a thrift store and found heaps of clothes that I loved that fit me perfectly. Then I found a special distinctive dress. My dress. My dad had thrown away heaps of my clothes and I had to buy them all back. FML
Return to sender
Today, my watch broke so I casually mentioned to my dad that I needed a new one. A little while later he hands me this really nice watch. He says, "Here, this one's been lying around for a while." It was the watch I gave him for Father's Day. FML

Why not just ask him to buy it?

Why do people always expect other people to read their minds? Like they have a gift of clairvoyance.. pffft

Or you know, pay attention to context and timing. Communication is a two-way street and paying attention is all you really need.

Hahaha you should've just told him you want it

If you really want the sweater you could just buy it for yourself...

Learn this now: many men do NOT take hints. Best to tell him outright what you want.

In many books about relationships, not just romance, but any relationship, it's said over and over that HINTS are a BAD way to communicate with people, unless you're playing a game of charades. Don't hint, ask. You will avoid a LOT of grief, trust me.

Not everyone can take a hint.

A lot of people won't pick up on hints and need to just be asked. They won't suddenly be more inclined to buy it for you just because you hinted at it.

90% of the time I fail to get hints. The other 10% I ignore them. Either talk to me or don't. Playing mind games means that you don't have anything important to say.
