Today, I received yet another letter from a relative bitching me out for not involving my parents in my wedding. The parents who showed no interest in our relationship and then yelled at my fiancé and me when we announced it to them, calling us stupid, naive, heathens, and mentally ill. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my crazily elitist parents were so desperate to get me to dump my fiancé that they threatened to divorce if I didn't. When I told them to go ahead, they bitched me out for being disrespectful. FML
Plot twist
Today, I overheard my mom talking on the phone with my sister about how much they hate my fiancé. My wedding is in two weeks and my family has been pretending to like my future husband for three years. FML
Today, my family got mad at me for eloping and not inviting them to my wedding. Even though they admitted they wouldn't have gone anyway. FML
Today, I called my mom to make sure she could attend on the wedding day my fiancé and I had discussed. She started off with criticizing the venue we considered, then went on to criticize my fiancé, and then stated she would under no circumstances help out, but demanded to pick my wedding dress. FML
No means no
Today, it seems my mom didn’t believe me when I told her multiple times I was not going to my nasty bitch sister's wedding. Then she acted surprised and outraged when, shocker, I didn’t go, and has been leaving me texts and voicemails for over an hour. FML
Today, my husband and I came clean to his overbearing parents about our private wedding. It started with them accusing him of making rash decisions, and somehow descended into an argument amongst themselves that ended with his mom deciding to divorce his dad. FML
Today, I got a letter from my mother-in-law stating that demons made her spread rumors about me all over my hometown before my wedding. FML
Today, I found out that my fiancé's parents are refusing to pay for a honeymoon, because they "didn't have one, so neither will we", meaning they won't pay for a single thing for our wedding. FML
Today, a week after my fiancé and I got engaged, his mother is already complaining that she isn't involved enough in the wedding arrangements. We haven't even set a date yet. FML
Today, I learned that if you complain to your mom about your future mother-in-law's bitchiness, your overprotective mom might confront her about it and end up punching her in the face. My fiancée blames me for the incident. FML

Did your parents really expect to be invited after that? They might be your parents but doesn't mean you have to accept that behavior at your wedding.

If they wanted to be involved, don't be dicks about it

By their actions they didn't want to be involved

No one should have to suffer people who aren't supportive of their relationship on their wedding day.

To make sure things are clear, I was talking about the parents being dicks.

It is kind of written like you're telling OP not to be a dick, but it makes sense once it's explained.

Sounds like some relatives want to be uninvited.

they are just jeleous op don't worry
cprad11 12
I don't think they're jealous. It seems like they're just being malicious and unsupportive of the OP.

Do you know what jealousy is, 2?

Your parents may be suffering from bitchiness syndrome, they need to see a doctor now before it's too late

Maybe try explaining the situation to your relatives? It wouldn't be good to start your marriage on a bad foot with your family.

If they were close to those family members, they would know already. It just sounds like extended family sticking their noses where it doesn't belong.

In support of 13's comment, most of the time that's pretty much all extended family is good for.

People still send letters in this day and age?

Well, back in their day...

It could have been part of the RSVP card. Just a note attached to their response. Those are still usually sent through the mail.

So glad you found your significant other. You two can elope or just go down to the court and get married. The only thing you need is each other. Everyone else is just extra or unnecessary.
Goblin182 27
Why should they elope just because Op's parents are assholes? They should have the wedding they want and anyone in OP's family that doesn't want to be there can stay the F___ away.

I'm sorry it's going so badly for you with your family. Weddings are meant to be about bringing two people who love each other together with their family and friends, but sometimes people manage to make it all about themselves. Sadly sometimes emotional events bring out the selfishness and insecurities in people instead of their more caring qualities. I Hope you'll manage to patch things up with your parents without any long festering resentments, but don't feel obliged to if you're not ready, and I hope it doesn't overshadow your wedding for you!
