Today, I realized the only way I can pay my bills this month is if I steal from my 8 year old's birthday money. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Desperate
Today, I was looking for a job. I was so desperate for gas money to drive around town that I had to steal $20 from my sister. She's only 10 years old. FML
Today, realizing how poor I am, I decided to steal gas. The only place I was brave enough to steal from was my parents' lawn mower. FML
Today, I realized that my 5 year old son has more money saved up in his piggy bank than I have in my actual bank account. FML
Piggy banked
Today, I discovered my own mother has been stealing money from me for months when I opened my savings box to find it empty. FML
Rip off
Today, I learned that my daughter pocketed the money I'd paid so she could go to college. FML
Mismanagement
Today, my parents accidentally bounced some checks through a miscommunication. They now owe the bank $700 and can't afford groceries, which means we're relying on me, a 17-year-old girl who works at McDonald's 2 days a week, to get us by for the next few weeks. FML
Today, my mom cleaned out my bank account, saying my "no-good dad" owes her child support and that she'll get it one way or another. FML
Today, my mom tried to get me to shoplift. From the dollar store. FML
Outrageous
Today, I found out that my grandma has been sending me birthday money every year. My mom just steals it before I ever see it. FML
Mismanagement
Today, I discovered that my mother has been stealing from me to cover her mountain of debt. I’m barely making ends meet as it is. When I confronted her, she had the gall to suggest I get a second job to support her. FML

You need to provide. Money can be replaced later.

Been there before. Several times! I always pay them back though

What you do is that you take the money you need and leave a note for yourself. Just write down how much you owe him and if you forget he will most likely notice at some point anyway. If he doesn't understand now, he will when he's older

Don't steal... ask your 8-year old for a loan and teach him/her about the value of money in the progress...

Don't worry - there's a lot of people who've had to do the same thing, myself included. Sometimes shit happens and you have to work with what you've got even when it sounds like a terrible thing to do - it's not, please try not to beat yourself up about it. They most likely won't even remember it happened (or it'll just be a vague thing of little importance) if you just mention that you're doing it, say approx when it'll get paid back and get it done exactly as promised. Don't make like it's a big deal and they won't think it's a big deal - even though it is to you. It worked for me and my kid when I had to do it.

Great advice #25 :) I hope OP sees your comment.

That's how it worked my my parents. If I ever had to borrow money I had to pay back interest. It was their way of showing responsibility and that the sooner we paid them back the better.

Sometimes the money outlasts the month, sometimes the month outlast the money. It's happened to everyone at some point, where we have had y to "borrow from Peter to pay Paul". Don't beat yourself up over it just repay it when you have the extra funds You're a good parent for taking care of your child and feeling bad about the actions. Put it in perspective and be proud of the job you're doing overall

Aren't there other options? Taking money from your retirement account? The child's other parent? An adult relative that can hold you accountable? I highly recommend looking into Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University, because you need to learn how to manage money better.

I accidentally pushed the up instead of down so don't think your advice was good cause I personally think it was a tat rude.. Sometimes these little hiccups happen and can't be helped!

I'm sorry. I forgot that constructive criticism is a terrible thing to give on this forum. As the saying goes, "You can't fix stupid".

I don't think you can assume that OP doesn't know how to manage money. Things come up. Maybe someone was injured or their car broke down. Maybe he lost his job. We can't account for every possibility in life, and it's highly possible he's doing the best he can. Perhaps you should try not to judge people without knowing the full story.

You were 8 and charging your parents interest to provide for you? Neat.

Teach him to help people when they are in need. Its a life lesson

An 8 YO understands more than you think. Would have been best to explain your dilemma rather then stealing. Your relationship with your child is everything. You should explain to your child what you did. You'll feel better for it.
